Message from the Principal

As we approach the end of a very short half-term, we are in the midst of exam season and I wish our Year 11 students the very best of luck in their final exams. They have been excellent so far, impressing us all with their positive attitude and hard work. They have been through 3 academic years like no other and we will be celebrating their achievements in August.

Our upgraded school uniform for the next academic year is now available to purchase from our stockists and full details can be found on our website. With a brand new skirt, tie and jumper (an optional item) and updates to the blazer, the new uniform reflects the professional attitude and approach of students to their education and celebrates the significant achievements of the school in recent years.

Both the tie and blazer are made from environmentally sustainable sources, an important factor in changing the uniform, whilst the new skirt and tie are more distinctively Redmoor Academy. In addition, Redmoor will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2025 and the green and gold bands in the skirt celebrate the original uniform of the school when it first opened in 1975

Whilst our students always look smart and wear our uniform with pride, I am delighted that we are able to make some changes that not only reflect our ethos and culture, but ensure our uniform is more sustainable for our environment and remains extremely competitively priced for our families.

With the end of this school year now only 5 weeks away (reminder - school closes at approx. 12.15pm on Thursday 7th July due to the additional Jubilee Bank Holiday), we are looking forward to hosting events that have not been possible for the last 2 years. This includes our Redmoor Enrichment week (REC) in June for KS3, work experience for Year 10 students and transition days for our new Year 7 students.

It is worth remembering that this is the first time students have completed a full academic year for 3 years and for Years 7-9, it is their first full year at secondary school. That in itself is an achievement. When we reflect on their educational progress, their maturity into young adults and their ability to cope with change, it must be in the context of the impact of the pandemic, without providing excuses for poor behaviour and decision making. What has helped us navigate this time has been sticking to our overarching aim;

“Excellence, opportunity and success for all”
And also to our core values, which we return to at all times;
For all students to achieve their best outcomes
To provide a variety of outstanding opportunities that develop character and prepare students to be responsible community and global citizens
For students to become the very best version of themselves

As always, we remain incredibly proud of our students, staff and our school community.

TeenTech

In April 50 year 9 students participated in a virtual event hosted by TeenTech where they were given the chance to hear about innovations in engineering from industry experts including the future of transport. The students were then tasked with coming up with an innovation project to solve a specific problem.

The top 10 students were then selected to go visit the TeenTech live event at MIRA Technology Institute on May 5th. They participated in science, technology, and engineering challenges including programming driverless cars and had the opportunity to speak with ambassadors from a range of different engineering careers.

During the session the students had the opportunity to develop their innovation projects. Charlie’s group's idea of having charging cables in roads to recharge electric cars was voted as the idea of the day! Well done!

Area Sports

Students competed in the Area Sports competition held at Nuneaton Pingles. For many students this was the first big PE fixture and some were very nervous. They threw themselves into the day doing their best in each event and encouraging their teammates to. We found ourselves to be strong in the field events with some notable performances on the track. This resulted in a respectable 3rd place overall. Well done to all that completed.

Sports Leaders

As the year 10 Sports Leaders head towards the end of their course Mrs Short would like to say well done and thank you for your help with all the primary festivals and leading in the community. You have developed into confident young leaders and I hope you continue to use the skills going forward.

Coram Shakespeare Schools Festival

We are excited to announce that we will be performing in next year’s Spring festival for the Coram Shakespeare Schools Foundation at Curve, Leicester. Auditions will take place in the Autumn term with Yr7-10 being able to take part.

Oliver!

Student’s from Redmoor Academy have taken up the opportunity to perform in the Concordia Theatres Amatuer Operatic Society’s production of Oliver! Boys aged 8-14 were asked to audition for the roles of Oliver, Artful Dodger and Workhouse/Fagin’s gang. Successful auditions will see the students in role at the local theatre in November this year! Good Luck to all those auditioning.

The Heart of a Romantic - The Story of Charlotte Brame

A local professional theatre company, Red River Theatre, has taken on Year 8 student Lizzie to play the role of Young Charlotte in their next production. The production is about local novelist Charlotte Brame, and will take place at the Atkin’s Building, Hinckley on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th June at 7:30pm - tickets are £3. Lizzie will star alongside local Chelsie Faulks (who works as a professional actress) playing the older Charlotte. This is a great opportunity for Lizzie, congratulations on your role!

Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP):

MVP has now been running for a full year at Redmoor and we couldn't be prouder of our current year 10 mentors. The programme has been a huge success thanks to all of those involved. The MVP mentors have surpassed expectations through their maturity and positive approach to any challenges that have been asked of them. They have most recently conducted assemblies across the school, educating students on the bystander approach and they will be supporting the training for the new cohort of MVP mentors during the summer term.

We are very excited that 36 year 9 students have volunteered to become MVP mentors. They impressed us in their first training session last week and we are looking forward to seeing them develop their skills further as they start their MVP journey.

REC 2022 - 20th-24th June
