A message from our pupils...

Dear parents, we have been asked to give you a mini review of our school/work. During our time at Milefield, we have participated in many trips and school events. We have taken-part in events such as school silent discos, assemblies, Christmas discos, reindeer runs, red nose day and much more. We have also been on many school trips, such as: school residentials, zoo trips, Crucial Crew, Jorvik and York Dungeons. Most of our School trips were linked to our lessons. For example: York Dungeons ,which linked to our Crime and Punishment topic and end outcome in Year 6, where we went round different rooms which had horrid things in and terrifying jump-scares.

House points and Sports Leaders: Our house points are one of the most important things in our school. It helps us concentrate on learning and feel rewarded after making our teachers proud. Pupils are split into different teams all throughout school. The team with the most house points currently is Saturn. Teachers are able to reward you with a house point or two for being an excellent pupil.

Sports leaders can give other students House points too. This is for when they have won a race, shown great teamwork or resilience and perseverance. If you do not know what sports leaders are, here is our explanation: Sports Leaders are a group of Year 5 and 6 students that host games and activities for other students (Mainly Year 1 and 2) so they can have fun and not feel left out. Sports Leaders include many pupils into their great games. They also treat everyone equaly so no one is automatically wins for being a favourite. Our usual games are dodgeball, basketball, football, catch, cat and mouse, tag and many more. On a Friday, we usually do a mini sports day. Many people enjoy Friday because of this. It also gives children an exciting reason to come to school. Sports leaders are held on a Monday and Friday from 12:00 - 13:00.

Many thanks for reading, James and Alexia.

Reading

We have now purchased lots of brand new books using our funding from the Foyle Foundation and these will be available for all to share in the coming weeks!

Don't forget, we have been selected as a charity to vote for in our local Tesco store at Hemsworth. From January until the end of March, use your blue tokens every time you shop and vote for the Milefield reading scheme at the voting point. The more people who vote, the more money we get for even more books!

World Book Day 2022

This year your children were paired up in class groups across school to read with another class in our library. Below are some photographs from the day of our pupils enjoying sharing reading.

Attendance

Due to many various illnesses this term, our attendance figures have fluctuated but we are confident these will rise again to above our target of 97%. Please call school for advice, support or with any questions if your child is ill at home. We still need to remain vigilant in relation to COVID-19 and measures in place. See below for figures this term:

Autumn term 1: 96%

Autumn term 2: 95%

Spring term 1: 95%

Spring term 2:

Week 1: 95.5%

Week 2: 95.7%

Week 3: 95.0%

Week 4: 95.0%

Our target is 97%. I know we can do better from April 2022!

Key points from our school policies/home/school agreement:

  • School uniform - consists of grey trousers/skirt with green jumper and white/green polo. These do not need to have our logo on.
  • Black shoes (not trainers) which are sensible and plain.

  • PE kit - Plain white t-shirt/polo shirt, plain black shorts (indoors) or tracksuit bottoms (outdoors), plain hoody/jumper (outdoors) and plain black pumps/trainers. Absolutely no jewellery allowed at all.

  • School day:
  • Our school day begins at 8.50am and ends at 3.15pm (unless in Nursery). Please do not allow pupils who walk to school to come onto the site until 8.45am at the earliest. We do not open the doors until 8.50am so are not responsible for pupils until then.
  • Parents do not need to come onto school site until 3.10pm at the earliest to collect pupils at the end of the day. Lessons continue until 3.15pm each day. Please, if you are on site early, keep your distance from classrooms so teachers can complete lessons without distraction.
  • Homework: Parents are asked to listen to children read , practise times tables & practise spellings daily. We also set homework via Seesaw (online). If your child requires paper copies, please speak to classteacher at your earliest convenience. We do have devices we can loan out too.
  • Vehicle access to school, please ensure you only enter the car park if you or your child has a blue badge. If you have a pre-existing arrangement with Miss Jones, this is also acceptable.
  • If you walk into the grounds with your child, please stick to the pathways and the crossings as cars are always coming and going into the car park. There is a children's centre on site and cars require access at all times. No pupils should be allowed near staff cars or to walk through the car park at any time.

Thank you for your continued support in all the above, we must continue to work together to ensure our pupils remain safe and come to school ready to learn.

EYFS

This month has been fun-packed and full of exciting learning opportunities...

KS1

Class 1

In year one, Mrs Burnett's class have been up to lots of amazing things. Take a look at our pic collages below...

So far this half term we have been learning about time and money in maths. We enjoyed learning about these important life skills.

Over half term it would be great to practice your phonics, tricky words and reading just a little bit every day. Also, you can practice writing your first and second name and numbers to 20.

Class 1/2

Here are some examples of our fantastic learning in class 1/2...

Class 2

Class 2 have had a busy and exciting half term so far!

In maths we have focused on using different units of measurement and used our knowledge to help us make a delicious peach crumble and yummy mocktails.

As part of Science week, which is the theme 'growing' we have planted our own cress seeds and enjoyed watching these grow.

In PD and RSHE we have been looking at different types of medicines and why these are used. We have also learnt the importance of taking medicine safely and only when we need to.

Our topic this half term is called 'E-Safety Experts'. We have been set a challenge by Early Years to create a video for the younger children, so they know how to be safe online. So far, we have gathered lots of information and we are excited to start filming soon!

We will be continuing to prepare for our year 2 SATs next half term in maths and reading, supporting children in building their confidence when answering test style questions. In order to support your child with this, homework in these areas will be sent home over the half term holidays.

As always, thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you back in school after a well earned break.
