Reception Newsletter 28 March 2022

Our Week Ahead

We will commence the week with a visit from a local author - Sean Perkins, who will be working alongside the Reception pupils on Monday morning. On Tuesday, Mr Simpson will be joining us for our last storytelling session. Who will win the “Pineapple of Bravery Award” this week?

This week in Phonics, we will learn to read and write words containing the Phase 3 digraph sounds –ur and er and the tricky word – they. We will continue to practise writing the phase 2 tricky words (I, no, go, the, to) using our look - cover - spell - check method. We will point to letters of the alphabet while singing the alphabet song and begin to learn the letter names. Click on the link below to practise the names at home.

Our focus for handwriting this week will be the letters j, y, r, and n. We now have a daily handwriting session and during this session we are trying really hard to form our letters correctly using the handwriting patters.

This week, during our Literacy sessions we will be learning about instructions. We will read and write instructions to make gingerbread men. Then we will then put our baking skills to the test and make our own gingerbread men. As part of our Maths, we will learn about measures and measure out the ingredients we need. We will continue to learn about 3D shapes - talk about their properties, and what is the same/different. We will use 3D shapes to create some models.

During our topic afternoon we will learn all about the Christian celebration of Easter and how this is celebrated. We will make our own Easter crafts and on Friday go on a Reception Easter egg hunt. Click on the link below to watch a video.

Have a lovely Easter break!
