Teaching Design SESSION THREE

Intro to Teaching Design with Adobe XD

Monday 10th October 2022, 5pm to 6:30pm

Live Session Recording:

In this session we will be learning how to create a simple app design with Adobe XD. We will then touch on the basics of user testing, iterative design and wireframes.

“User experience design (UXD, UED, or XD) is the process of supporting user behavior through usability, usefulness, and desirability provided in the interaction with a product.

"Experience design is the practice of designing products, processes, services, events, omnichannel journeys, and environments with a focus placed on the quality of the user experience and culturally relevant solutions. Experience design requires a cross-discipline perspective that seeks to develop the experience of a product, service, or event along a number of different design dimensions.”

Wireframes

One of the most basic forms of prototype is known as a wireframe; a simplified sketch of the content that will appear on each screen. Wireframes are devoid of color, typographical styles, and images.

Wireframes describe the contents of each screen, and help you to establish the functionality, behavior, and relative priorities of your content. Later, they can kick-start the design process and help you to elaborate on the details.

Using wireframes as a substitute for more complex design concepts is useful for creating and modifying designs on the fly. Sketching your designs out on paper also allows you to make quick and simple modifications to your design when you test it with users.

User Testing & Iteration

UX design isn’t just about creating a functional product, it’s also about creating a usable product. When you spend time developing something, your familiarity with the product may blind you to potential problems that might be obvious to a first-time user.

By putting your product in front of a user for the first time and allowing them to play with it, you can observe any problems that arise. This is user testing.

Once you’ve identified the problems, you can rework your design in a way that solves them. Over time, and with several iterations, this process (prototyping) will eventually reshape your product to be as user-friendly and accessible as possible.

Assignment 1: Using Adobe XD, create a wireframe design for a recipe app (three to five screens).
