WHATS HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOM?

6th Grade

(JANUARY)

Reading- Reading articles and speeches that deal with space exploration to answer the question: Is space exploration a daring adventure or dangerous risk?

Math- Calculating how far apart the planets should be spaced in the hallway.

Science-Students choose a Planet and find key facts and information about it. They are also drawing and labeling the Planet.

English- Students write an essay using the prompt... Is there life on other planets? Write an essay explaining why you believe there is or there isn’t.

Steam-Learning to use Botley robots and basics of computer coding.

(FEBRUARY)

Math-Working on area, surface area, and volume

Science-Learning about Earths magnetic firlds

English- Drawing evidence from literary or informational texts to support research, reflection, and analysis

History- Studying about World War 2

7th Grade

(JANUARY)

Math-finishing up Percents Unit and starting Probability.

Accelerated Math- Accelerated Math is working through the Geometry Unit.

Science- studying symbiotic relationships and examining WOW bugs and California Black worms

Computer science- Getting ready to code a game

History- geography skills including map skills, latitude & longitude, continents v. countries).

English- Working on analyzing and writing essays. Just finished analyzing “An Adventure with a Shark.”

Steam-Learning to use the Lego robots including computer coding

(FEBRUARY)

Math-Studying Statistics

Accelerated math- Surface area and 3D figures

Science- Heat shields for PBL Additionally, building small ponds to examine the microscopic ecosystem

Computer science- Learning how to build webpages and learning how to fly drones.

Geography - Watching the series "when we left earth" and will be creating flight patches

English- Analysis essays on stories and nonfiction

Reading-Starting The Hobbit next week

8th Grade

(January)

Math- Starting functions

Accelerated math- Finishing up Chapter 6 and Starting Factoring

Science- Learning about sound, light waves, and the electromagnetic spectrum in science.

Career prep- Learning to design and prototype backpack tags, each student design tag using 3D software and will result in a 3D printed tag to keep.

English- Finishing up the “Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe and then starting a short story called “Charles,” by Shirley Jackson.

History- Completing study of the Roman Empire and also the Birth of Growth of Christianity. Will soon begin a study of Islam.

(FEBRUARY)

Science-Learning about electricity and energy

Math- Starting exponents and scientific notation

Accelerated math-Accelerated math will be starting quadratic functions.

English-Begin reading “Flowers for Algernon.”

History- Begin studying Islam

Career prep- Completing Kit 4 Fasteners, Tools, and Assembly ending with building a model A320 aircraft using tools including: screwdrivers, wrenches, sockets and ratchets, and pop rivet guns. Starting Kit 5 electricity and fiber optics.

8th grade will be participating in a cross-curricular lesson titled "The Current Wars AC vs. DC." There will be lessons taught on this topic in each subject area during this time.

6th grade goes to space

7th grade being productive

7th grade Jaxon Daniel works on one of his first assignments for Geography. He is learning latitude and longitude by finding NFL stadiums across the country. Maddie Speegle completes a colorful math assignment, learning to change decimals to percents and fractions. Students are learning real world skills in math like calculating interest.Erika Rodriguez uses first period to catch up on Mrs. Thurman's Google meet so that she can write an analysis essay. Kyle Richard's looks at wow bugs in science class.

8th grade building it better

Career prep is working on learning fasteners and tools to build an A320 aircraft!!!

Congrats to our Varsity Girls for winning the Area Championship! Also congrats to the JV Boys, Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys teams for winning the county championships this year!
Good luck to our Varsity cheer team as they represent Good Hope at the National Championship in Orlando, FL. We want to recognize one of our own, Lauren Falls (8th grade) for being part of this team! Good Luck girls!

Spelling Bee

Aubrey Scott represented GHM at the Cullman County Spelling Bee making it into the 5th round, top ten of the contestants.
Congratulations to Aubrey Scott (1st place) and Ava Bell (runner up) in the Middle School spelling bee!

Good job Scholars Bowl! They placed 3rd regional and won 5 out of 7 games!

Thanks to the GHS Raider Concert Band for a great performance during the Holiday Season! We really enjoyed the show!
