Forden School News 2nd september 2022

Return to school

We are looking forward to welcoming all pupils back on Monday 5th September. We hope you have enjoyed a good summer holiday and are ready for the new school term.

Attendance and punctuality

For the last 2 years, attendance monitoring by the local authority through the Education Welfare Service has been suspended. This will be reinstated from the start of this term. Our school attendance last year was 91.8%.

School gates are open from 8:40am for pupils not attending breakfast club, and the school day starts at 8:50am. Morning registration is at 8:50am. Pupils must be in class by 9:00am at the latest to gain their mark on the register. Any pupils arriving after 9:00am will be marked in as late. This counts as an unauthorised absence. If your child is not going to be in school, please contact the school by phone (answerphone) or email (office@forden.powys.sch.uk) by 9:00am.

You will receive updates of your child's attendance termly.

School Uniform

We expect children to come to school tidily and appropriately dressed. We believe that wearing a school uniform will:

• Provide a sense of belonging in the school and instil pride in its achievements;

• Support positive behaviour and school discipline;

• Support and promote the ethos of the school.

Second hand uniform is available if required - after school on Wednesdays.

Equipment

All pupils will need to bring their bookbag every day.

Please ensure your child brings their PE kit into school (as described in the uniform policy above). This should be kept in a bag on their peg. If your child has long hair, it should be tied up for PE lessons.

Pupils in dosbarth Collen and dosbarth Ysgawen (Years 3-6) will need a small pencil case which should remain in school. This should include:

  • black pen
  • blue pen
  • pencil
  • eraser
  • short (15cm) ruler
  • small selection of colouring pencils

Any other stationery will be provided by the school. Please do not bring felt pens or oversized pencil cases.

Snack

In line with our Food & Fitness policy, pupils should only bring fruit as a snack to eat during break in the morning. If your child needs their fruit peeling or chopping, please prepare this at home.

Lexia

All pupils from Year 2 - Year 6 are able to access Lexia. Their username will have changed to reflect their new school year. Their password has not changed. They each begin with a target of 20 minutes per week. This will increase if their weekly target is not met.
