Live Brief Tara Prigge HND1B
When I approached Shilling Brewing Co about doing my video there, they asked if I could also take some photos for them, as they wanted to update their website. Of course, I obliged and figured it would be a good opportunity for my Live Brief.
Research
I also had a look at the following website: http://brewpub.dk/en/
The guys at Shilling told me they definitely didn't want pictures of a big empty space with no people in it, which they already had a couple of on their current website and weren't happy with. They wanted more closeups and some shots of staff "doing things". Other than that, they didn't give me a specific brief and said I was free to shoot whatever caught my eye. Unfortunately, the managers all seem to have different opinions on whether the copper looks better polished or unpolished. The ones who were in when I was shooting prefer it unpolished so it has more of a tarnished look. This means they weren't willing to clean/polish them for the shots and subsequently, some of the shots have very obvious streaks of dirt and old beer on the copper, which are exceedingly difficult to take out in Photoshop and in my opinion don't look good. For this reason I have left most of these shots out of the finals, even though some of them were favourites of mine apart from that issue.
I sent 40 images to Shilling to consider, and got good initial feedback from them, however, they've not actually done anything about changing their website yet, so I don't know which images they'll end up using, if any. I've therefore chosen 10 images from the 40, that I personally thought could work well together in the context of a website.
The lighting was quite difficult to work with as there are multiple types of artificial lighting all over the building, and in some cases this resulted in having to use a high ISO as I couldn't always use a tripod or a wide aperture. Due to this fact, some of the images are a bit noisy, but I did my best to compensate between noise reduction and sharpness in post-production. I would've liked to have had a more specific brief, as quite often I thought that what I find interesting is not necessarily what they would want for their website, but I think I gave them enough variety to work with, and I feel these 10 images give an accurate representation of the brewpub.
