Black Mountain Elementary School Preparing students for the global stage

The Power of Showing Up: Why Attendance Matters

In today’s world, the importance of showing up can’t be overstated. Many businesses are grappling with a workforce that is stretched thin, often displaying signs that ask for kindness toward the team members who came to work. This reminder echoes in the lives of our children, too—showing up is a foundational life skill, and school is where it starts.

At Black Mountain Elementary, we are dedicated to instilling a strong work ethic in our students, starting with the simple act of attending school. When students miss days, they miss out on thoughtfully crafted lessons that can be difficult to replicate outside the classroom or at a later date. Our teachers do everything possible to help kids catch up, but the initial instruction—the engagement, interaction, and discussions that make learning meaningful—can’t truly be recreated.

Research underscores the critical role of attendance. Studies have shown that students with regular attendance are 20% more likely to score proficiently in reading and math assessments, and children who miss just two days per month are at greater risk of falling behind. Students who attend school regularly also report feeling more connected and less anxious, forming stronger social bonds that support their learning.

Let’s partner together to make attendance a priority. Every day your child spends at school is a step toward becoming someone who shows up, works hard, and thrives. Thank you for supporting this essential part of their journey.

I’m reaching out to share news about a family within our community who recently experienced a profound loss. Sadly, Noah, a devoted father, passed away, leaving behind his young children. Before his passing, Noah thoughtfully established college funds to ensure his children’s future education was secure. While he had already begun contributing to these accounts, they will no longer receive the continued funding Noah had planned. As a community, we have the opportunity to come together and offer our support during this difficult time.

If you’d like to help, contributions to these funds would be greatly appreciated to ensure that Noah’s vision for his children’s education remains on track. Every bit of support—whether financial or by sharing this message—will make a meaningful difference.

Thank you for your care and compassion.
