Purdue President Chiang launches new initiative

As student interest in computing-related majors and the societal impact of artificial intelligence and chips continue to rise rapidly, Purdue has launched a new major initiative, Purdue Computes, consisting of three dimensions that will connect faculty and students from across the institution and enable the university to advance to the forefront with unparalleled excellence at scale.

Faculty receive promotions from Purdue's Board of Trustees

Professors Jeremiah Blocki, Hemanta Maji, Bruno Ribeiro, Jeff Turkstra, and Vassilis Zikas were approved for promotion by Purdue University's Board of Trustees on April 14, 2023.

The Purdue University Board of Trustees approved faculty promotions for five Department of Computer Science faculty members on April 14, 2023. The promotions are effective with the 2023-24 academic year.

ALGORITHMIC PROGRAMMING TEAM WINS REGIONAL COMPETIION

Purdue's Algorithmic Programming team at the East Central North America Regional (ECNA)

For the first time, a Purdue University team finished first in their regional contest in the International Collegiate Programming Competition (ICPC). The Purdue BTR team won overall and will advance to represent Purdue in the North American Championship in May 2023.

CHI 2023

Purdue CS faculty members had five accepted papers at CHI 2023. The ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems is the premier international conference of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). CHI – pronounced ‘kai’ – annually brings together researchers and practitioners from all over the world and from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and positionalities, who have as an overarching goal to make the world a better place with interactive digital technologies.

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

AN ERA OF GROWTH

In the profession of computer science, demand for our majors continues to grow - once again we have broken our own record for the number of applications for freshman admissions at more than 8,700. At the start of fall classes, 785 freshman students joined our previous classes for more than 2,600 undergraduates.

This year, freshman women students represent 26% of the undergraduate population and women are 24.3% among all undergraduate students.

GRADUATE PROGRAM

Our graduate population has exploded with 538 MS and PhD students for the 2022-23 academic year. This represents a 26% increase in growth from the previous year.

Purdue Computer Science graduate students work in any of the 11 research areas in the department.

Purdue Computer Science offers the traditional PhD and master's degree programs in addition to both an in-person and online professional master's degree in information security.
