ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year
Wade Heerboth from Case Western Reserve University has been named the 2023 ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year.
Heerboth has been serving as the volunteer assistant at Case Western Reserve for seven seasons and he truly has been doing all of his work for a genuine love of the sport and this program.
A Two-Time All-American at Kenyon, Heerboth immediately upon graduating knew he wanted to stay involved with tennis and has been working with the Spartan team ever since.
Each season he has continued to do more and more and this year he played an integral part in Case Western Reserve taking home the program's first NCAA National Championship.
Heerboth attends almost every 6 am practice, hits with players after work, travels to away events (often times at his own expense), and is always available to take care of any extra tasks needed.
This season, he has taken an extended role with on-court coaching during matches. At the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, he covered courts four thru six allowing Head Coach Todd Wojtkowski to focus on the remain three courts. With this strategy the Spartans took home their second straight ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
The Spartans have now reached No. 1 in the national rankings and have been in the finals of the previous two National Team Indoor and NCAA Championships which in large part is credited to Heerboth's full time involvement with the program.
A Letter From Head Coach Todd Wojtkowski
Dear Wade,
I wanted to thank you for the immeasurable dedication you have shown to our program. Your unwavering support and sacrifice have played a pivotal role in our journey to attaining the National Championship and we could not have done it without you.
Through the past couple of years, it was evident that you gave so much of yourself to ensure our success.
I knew that when you had finished at Kenyon that there was something special about your competitiveness as you fought incredibly hard for every single point you played while never sacrificing your integrity and ethics. You led that team to its first every appearance in an NCAA Championship match, just as you have helped our program do as well.
Finally, after a decade of waiting we are all able to feel what it is like to reach that final goal of being named National Champions. I am so happy for you to receive this recognition as it was a lot of week you have spent working remotely and using up all of your vacation days in order to volunteer your time for this quest.
Huge Congratulations to you and let us say, more!
Todd Wojtkowski
