Summer term 2 Nursery 2023

We began this half term by taking part in the 30 days wild challenge. Children and their families engaged in different activities based around nature. Well done to everybody who took part it was great to see so many families appreciating nature.

Over this past half term we have had a mixture of sunshine, rain and wind. This has lead to many discussions around appropriate clothing for different weathers.

"I know that today I need my wellie boots because its raining"
"Sunglasses cos it hurts my eyes and you can't see"

There has also been a couple of thunderstorms recently. We discussed how the sound of the thunder made us feel. In nursery class we closed our eyes and listened carefully to thunder and rain sounds.

"I saw sheet lightening"
"I like storms I laugh at thunder"
"It made a boom"
"I don't like thunder storms I hide under my bed"

We read the story The singing mermaid, but oh dear the Singing Mermaid was tricked by Old Sam Sly. We tried to warn the Singing Mermaid but she still decided to join the circus.

One morning we were left a list from Ginger Bear, she needed our help to pack for her holiday.

We carefully looked at the number of items that Ginger required and packed them into her suitcase.

This inspired us to discuss what we might need to pack if we were going on an adventure.

Ginger kept us updated on her travels by sending us postcards regularly.

Of course we replied using our phonic knowledge to represent words.

Embedding the British value 'Democracy' within our classroom a book vote station was introduced. This allowed children to make 1 vote each to decide which story was read at the end of the day. The book which received the most votes was the chosen story.

It has been a fantastic year. Thank you to all the children who have worked incredibly hard and to parents for your support over the year. We wish all our N2 children the best of luck for when they start full time school in September.
