Morris All American, Men's Cross Country 26th at NCAA Championships
After a third place finish at the NCAA East Region Championships, the Men's Cross Country traveled to Michigan for the NCAA Division III Championships hosted on the campus of Michigan State. The Mules finished 26th out of 32 competing schools.
Tyler Morris (above) earned his second consecutive Cross Country All-American Award, placing 9th out of 294 competitors. Ben Mellor was the next Colby finisher in 142nd and James Boyle placed 170th.
This concludes the Cross Country season, and closes fall sport competition for Colby Athletics.
Men's Basketball Adds Three More Victories, Starts 5-0
The Men's Basketball team started the week at home Tuesday defeating Thomas College (101-58) in their lone home game of November. Cooper Wirkala (above) set a new Colby game record with 10 three-pointers, shooting 10 of 13 from behind the arc and collecting a career-high 35 points.
For weekend contests, the Mules left the region to take on the University of Chicago (73-61 win) and Colorado College (66-64 win). First-year Max Poulton extended his streak of double-digits scoring performances to five games to start his collegiate career. Senior Noah Tyson inches closer to the 1000 point mark, sitting at 979.
Colby is now 5-0 to start the season.
Women's Basketball Sweeps Colby Tip Off Classic, Sets New Team Record
The Women's Basketball team hosted the Colby Tip Off Classic this weekend, collecting two more wins to start the season. First they matched up against New England College taking the victory 57-49. Caroline Smith contributed 14 points and seven assists while Gabrielle Hemenes (above) added 11 points.
In the second match Colby's defense was relentless, holding Colby-Sawyer to 19 total points and cruising to a 61-19 victory. The previous mark for fewest points allowed was 21 recorded in the 2013-14 season against Thomas College. Ten different Mules got on the board with Carter McGloon leading the way (14 points), followed by Smith (11).
The Mules are 3-0 to start the season.
Men's Hockey Sweeps NESCAC Weekend on the Road
Colby started the season strong, defeating two NESCAC foes on a weekend road trip through the Green Mountains of Vermont and the Berkshires of Massachusetts. Friday night, the Mules took Middlebury College to an overtime showdown. Tied at two a piece, Colby first-year Tyler Crist found the back of the net for the game winner, assisted by Ryan Doolin and Nick Stapleton. All American Goalie Andy Beran finished with 33 saves.
Down at one point 2-1 at Williams College on Saturday, Colby netted four unanswered goals to cruise to a 5-2 victory. Ryan Doolin contributed one goal and two assist for the Mules, and Beran collected 32 saves between the pipes. All American Jack Sullivan (below) leads NESCAC defensemen with four points (one goal, three assists) after two games.
The Mules are off to a 2-0 conference record to start the season.
Squash Opens Season in Connecticut
After falling to MIT 7-2 Saturday morning, the Men's Squash team righted the ship in the nightcap, defeating Wesleyan 8-1. Winners against the Cardinals include Youssef Mostafa, Dylan Tymkiw, Jonathan Sosa Uranga, Sen Subramaniam, Syed Kashef, Kit Illick, Rintaro Yamamoto, and Sebastian Campos.
The Women's Squash team also battled against the Cardinals, edging out a win 5-4. Winners include All American Andrea Lee, Laavanya Kugan, Aileen Dominguez, India Spencer, and Amanda Miller.
Sunday, the Mules faced the top team in the country in Trinity College. Both the Men's and Women's teams fell to their hosts 9-0.
Swimming & Diving Opens Season Against Three NESCAC Opponents
The Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving teams started the season hosting Amherst College Saturday in their Home Pride Meet. Although both teams fell to the Mammoths (Men 107-166, Women 101-182) there were highlights to take away from the event.

Sunday Colby traveled to Hartford to take on Trinity and Hamilton. The men beat both teams (209-84 over Trinity, 211-68 over Hamilton) while the women split the competition (183-114 over Trinity, 131.5-160.5 Hamilton).
