They had forgotten their old lives and have no intention of ever going anywhere other than where they were. However, one day while they were hunting stags, they are lead to a lamppost. This lamppost, however, is the one that Lucy met Mr. Tumnus at and the one directly outside the wardrobe. When they see this, all of the memories from their old lives come flooding back. As they are exploring, they find themselves back inside the wardrobe then back inside the Professor's house and not a minute has passed since they left.
The Mastery of Two Worlds: In Narnia, the Pevensie children have a successful reign and are greatly loved by all the people. In their homeland, England, the children go back to their old lives and the Professor tells them not to look for Narnia. He said it would come to them in a different way (not the wardrobe).
