Artist Statement

For this final project, I wanted to capture photographs from urban locations, such as towns that are well-developed and have a grand population. I decided on a nighttime setting as a challenge for myself, and to show moments where our crazy and fast-paced lives are slowed down. I incorporated in all images the suggestions that Mr. O advised me. I increased the ISO to 800, setting the aperture to f8, and the shutter speed ranging from 1/5 to 1/30sec that depends on the lighting conditions where the photo was shot. For these final images in editing terms, I added slightly more exposure/brightness and more contrast to give depth to them. The amount of lighting played an important role, as cameras do not operate like the human eye. An essential item to have in hand is carrying a tripod; slower shutter speeds means a tripod will become your best friend. This forced me to understand how a tripod works. Walking with a tripod around town grabbed many people's attention and many double-looked at me which made me anxious. After a while, it didn't bother me, as I got engaged in the adventure of capturing nighttime photography. Thank you, Mr. O, for your teachings and for showing me the fun of photography. I can now prove to my brother that I am experienced in my picture-taking.
