This class will be offered in Spring 2024 again. More details will be posted in March. Those who are in this class can join the study abroad program to Korea (Exploring Korea: Past, Present, & Future) in Summer 2024. This will be a combination of lectures, excursion, and hands-on activities for 16 days (tentatively from May to June). You will get to experience everything about K-culture - K-pop, K-movies, K-drama, K-food, K-education, and K-fun!
Welcome to SO300 K-Pop and Beyond. Class will be on Monday and Wednesday, 1:00 - 2:15. CRN is 31445.
SO300 explores everything about Korea. Think of this course as Korea 101 but with more in-depth approaches to Korea (It would be like Studying Abroad to Korea in Kansas!). There is no conventional textbook. Instead, we will be utilizing journal articles, newspaper articles, films and hands-on activities including guest speakers.
In SO300, we will explore culture, family trends, gender, socialization, immigration, inequality, youth, food, leisure activities, and beauty.
More interestingly, with your help, we will be hosting the very first K-Festival at Washburn in October (tentatively 10/10 because 10/9 is a national holiday in Korea: Hagul Day = The Korean Alphabet Day). We will provide Korean foods, games, and Korean T-shirts.
By the time you're done with this class, you will be an expert on k-pop, k-drama, k-movie, k-food, k-beauty, etc.
In addition to SO300 K-Pop & Beyond, I have other classes like SO316 Japan & East Asia and SO319 Food & Culture. For more information, please contact Dr. Park (sangyoub.park@washburn.edu)
