Collision in south Salem results in two fatalities

Salem, Ore. — On Friday, December 24, 2021 at approximately 9:30 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to the scene of a collision just south of the intersection of Commercial ST at Browning AV SE. Arriving officers found one vehicle, a Jeep SUV, on its side in the roadway and a Nissan sedan in the landscape strip of a nearby business.

A witness reported the Jeep SUV traveling northbound on Commercial ST collided with the Nissan as the sedan attempted to turn east into the parking lot of a business. The sedan then struck another vehicle already in the business parking lot.

The driver of the sedan, Jason Pelletier, age 43, and the front passenger, Linda Lee, age 61, were pronounced deceased at the scene.

A third occupant of the sedan, Erin Pelletier, age 22, and the driver of the SUV, Daniel McDaniel, age 52, were transported to Salem Health for medical treatment.

The Salem Police Traffic Team is leading the crash investigation and no further information is being released at this time.
