Languages, Literacy & Communication Vision

Why? We want our learners to become ethical, informed citizens of the world who are open and receptive to the richness of languages through their own experiences. We want them to embrace challenge & be bold in their contributions and to be confident and creative in their use of language and vocabulary.

What? Our learners will develop a real pride in their own language, identity & the rich culture of Wales, as well as a greater respect and appreciation of other languages & cultures around the world. They will recognise the power of language to connect people & share ideas. We believe that this knowledge and passion contributes to strengthening relationships between people in an intercultural world. They will discover the pleasure of reading & find inspiration in literature.

How? Our learners will develop the ability to make connections between languages and transfer skills to enhance their communication through a unified approach to the study of languages and vocabulary across the AoLE. They will be afforded a range of exciting opportunities to learn about their cynefin, their country & the wider world. They will experience a wide range of different types of literature to spark imagination and creativity. They will be encouraged to be empathetic of different points of view and embrace diversity.

The Experience:

In International Languages lessons, we focus on developing your ability to communicate effectively in French/German. We also aim to enhance your knowledge and appreciation of culture by learning about the country and its people. To further enrich your language skills and awareness, you will have the opportunity to participate in Mandarin sessions with our Chinese Assistant.

Cymraeg: Cymraeg a Chymraeg Bob Dydd: In Welsh lessons, you will develop their ability to communicate effectively in the target language whilst gaining an appreciation for the benefits of bilingualism. The lessons will also allow you to learn about Welsh culture and history which will help you gain an understanding of the Welsh identity. Delivered through dynamic and engaging lessons, we will achieve this aim and will therefore contribute to the Welsh Government's aim of securing the vitality of the language for future generations by 2050.

English: In English lessons we will focus on three main topics: Travel Writing, Myths & Legends and The Art of Rhetoric. Lessons will focus on reading, writing and oracy skills through these topics and will be enriched by a range of different Literature texts. You will have the opportunity to write in different styles and for different purposes, whilst improving literacy skills during our weekly reading lessons.
