REAL STORIES:

“I have seen some of the benefits of NAWOU. I have got the knowledge to say no to FGM. Before this program, my father was pushing me to get cut, but now he supports my decision of no FGM. I used to go back home and explain to him everything I learned in the training and slowly, he changed his mind about FGM too.

I took part in dramas against FGM and early marriages and we have had a positive response from the community and they are willing to join hands to fight FGM in our village. My mentor gave me confidence and supported me to set up my own business making chapatti and selling tea. Out of the business, I have been able to meet the basic needs of my family and I am now saving money to buy a phone for myself.”-YEKO MERCY, 17, EASTERN UGANDA.

“I think everyone should know about the dangers of FGM and early forced marriage.”- Charity, 13, Korosi Village, Eastern Uganda

WOMANKIND WORLDWIDE ALSO SUPPORTS AND FUNDS SMALLER WOMEN'S ORGANIZATIONS:

Such as the Women's Action Group in Zimbabwe:

COVID-19 AND WOMANKIND WORLDWIDE:

Womankind partners have reported a greater need for their services during the pandemic, for example, partners in Ethiopia, Nepal, and Zimbabwe have seen a higher demand for their safe houses and shelters for women survivors of violence.

The Womankind COVID-19 Resilience Fund provides flexible grants to 42 women’s rights organizations in Ethiopia, Kenya, Nepal, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. The grants will be used where most needed, from paying rent on offices or safe houses and adapting programs to the challenges of COVID-19 in providing emergency food relief to the most marginalized women and girls, and influencing and holding governments accountable for addressing the needs and priorities of women in their responses to COVID-19.
