8th Grade Peek of the Week Week of December 5, 2022

See below for the informational flyer for our 8th grade Grade Bash field trip! This awesome trip to Universal Studios in Orlando, FL will celebrate our 8th grade students' accomplishments during their middle school years and their upcoming move to 9th grade! Questions? Contact clee@bryan.k12.ga.us

We are now collecting canned/non-perishable goods for the FCCLA food drive, and donations for Operation Christmas Child! Any donations are greatly appreciated.

Please note that there will be no Redskin Academy or after-school detention on Thursday, December 8.

Content Info For The Week

Math (Swindell, Beasley, and Meeks):

Monday - We will finish up volume of cylinders and start on volume of cones. . Tuesday - we will finish up volume of cones and start with volume of spheres. Wednesday - we will finish up volume of spheres. Thursday - we practice volume of all three shapes - cones, cylinders and spheres. Friday - we will quiz over volume.

Algebra I (Meeks):

Monday - We will review for our unit assessment. Tuesday - Unit assessment. Wednesday - we will review solving system of equations and graphing linear functions. Thursday - we will begin graphing linear inequalities. Friday - we will wrap up solving linear inequalities.

ELA (Styron and Bright):

This week scholars will use content-area vocabulary and generate relevant examples to deepen understanding of a central content-area concept, summarize the topic and important details of a text, avoiding personal judgments, and use active reading, viewing, and listening as they continue working through their individualized and differentiated app segments and continue reading their selected novels.

ELA (Lee):

This week in Mrs. Lee's class, students will continue reading their in-class novel, Long Way Down. We will be examining how Jason Reynolds uses poetic devices to build a strong plot, as well as how the character interactions that the narrator Will has over the course of the novel help develop the theme of the story.

9th Grade Lit (Lee):

This week in Mrs. Lee's class, students will continue their analysis of To Kill a Mockingbird. Students will examine how Harper Lee uses the exposition and rising action we see in Part 1 of the book to create a simultaneous sense of community and tension as the plot develops.

Science (Carver and Lewis):

This week students will continue to interpret motion through motion time graphs. Students will then move on to learning the three laws of motion.

Social Studies (MacArthur and Lewis):

This week, scholars in Mr. MacArthur's class will learn how the Judicial Branch of Georgia's government functions, civil vs. criminal law, the steps in Georgia's criminal justice system, and the functions of Georgia's local government. Scholars will have a quiz on Friday over this weeks lessons.
