Content Info For The Week
Math (Swindell, Beasley, and Meeks):
Students will begin this week on translation, rotation, and reflection on a coordinate grid.
Algebra I (Meeks):
This week in Algebra one, students will begin writing numbers in scientific notation and completing all operations (add, subtract, multiply, and divide) numbers written in scientific notation.
ELA (Styron and Bright):
This week scholar's in Mr. Styron's class will continue reading The Trojan War and will analyze how a particular scene develops the plot in a myth. They will also work to identify setting, character, plot, and theme within the story. By mid week scholars will be reading The Hunt For Troy and will use text evidence to explain a text’s meaning & engage in collaborative discussions on topics, texts, and issues, building on others’ ideas and clearly expressing personal perspectives, and describe how an author uses compare and contrast to structure the events, ideas, concepts, and information in a text. The week will end with having the scholars begin the process of writing an informative essay...evaluating the quality of the thesis statement, ideas, details, and conclusions in an informative essay.
ELA (Lee):
This week in Mrs. Lee's class, students will begin reading The Outsiders. During this novel study, we will be focusing on different narrative elements, including characterization and components of plot.
9th Grade Lit (Lee):
This week in Mrs. Lee's class, students will continue their analysis of The Odyssey. We will analyze the poem "The Ancient Gesture" and complete a TPCASTT graphic organizer to help us complete our analysis. Students will participate in a Socratic Seminar to unpack key ideas from the text. We will also begin preparing for writing our narrative for our Engaging Scenario.
Science (Carver and Lewis):
Students will be completing their study guide over Unit 1: Energy on Monday and Tuesday in order to prepare for their Unit test on Wednesday and Thursday.
Social Studies (MacArthur and Lewis):
This week in Mr. MacArthur's class, students will finish be finishing up their study on the early colony of Georgia. Students will learn about the changes that took place as Georgia transitioned from a trustee colony to a royal colony. Additionally, students will learn about key groups of people, and their influence on the growth of the Georgia colony such as the Salzburgers, the Highland Scots, and the Malcontents. Students will have a quiz on Friday to review before our unit test next week.
