Headteacher Comment

It has been a busy final week of a tricky term and my thanks go to all the staff for keeping the school open. I know that they have been popping up in classes around the school to make sure that learning continues apace and that we keep our standards high. I have my fingers firmly crossed that next term will finally let us say 'goodbye' to COVID. As the government restrictions change, I will update you accordingly, so please keep an eye out for communications from the school.

Next term we are all looking forward to highlights such as the Year Six trip to see Romeo and Juliet at the Royal Opera House, London; Year Five's two performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Deco Theatre and also Hansel and Gretel at the Corby Cube; Year Three and Fours' residential to Govilon in Wales; and the Reception trip to the DRET Farm (keep an eye on your inbox for details of these). Goodness! We all need to take this half term to recharge our batteries and get ready for the second half of Spring Term! We return on Monday 21st February at 8.40 am.

Thank you for your continued support and have a lovely half term break.

Children's Mental Health Week

This week is Children's Mental Health Week. The Greenfields philosophy is not only to offer a world class education to children, but to promote resilience, happiness and individuality which will help our pupils to take on the challenges that life throws at them. From sharing their dreams and goals to dressing to express, the children have been taking part in Jigsaw lessons which also encourage them to be themselves as an individual and to celebrate it every day. Please look out for the Jigsaw newsletter next term that is dedicated to personal and social education for our children.

Year Three have been celebrating Children's Mental Health Week 2022 by thinking about dreams and goals. They spoke about the supports they have in their lives and what they would like to achieve, as well as the path they need to take achieve them.

Year Three

Year Six are smashing children’s mental health week. Here they are dressed to express and sporting their 'talk out loud about mental health' wristbands.

What a brilliant week the children have all had exploring emotional growth in their classrooms.

Year Four on Tour

All the children in Year Four were delighted to take part in a trip to Wicksteed Park this afternoon to round off a successful term. Highlights of the trip included: a very friendly mute swan, comparing Greylag and Canada geese, showing off their singing, playing on the equipment and last, but certainly not least, some ice cream! What a fantastic way to end another outstanding term of learning for Year Four at Greenfields. The teachers were delighted and proud to learn that the office received a communication from a member of the public who had seen the children in the park and called the school to comment on how well behaved and polite the group were. Well done Year Four! Thank you to the parent volunteers who accompanied this trip out and helped make it so successful.

Parent Support at Greenfields

At Greenfields Primary School and Nursery, we love working with our partners in the community to provide the best support for families we can. Sometimes though, it’s a long way into town, especially if you have small children. Next term, on Wednesday 23rd February, we are delighted that our friends at Youthworks are hosting a drop-in for parents of children in Nursery, Reception and Year 1 to have tea, biscuits and a chat about the joys and challenges of being a parent. Keep an eye out in your inbox for a GoogleForm to sign up to express your interest (we know it will be popular) or ask at the School Office or your child’s Nursery, Reception or Y1 teacher for details.

Music Lessons

If you would like your child to take part in guitar or drumming lessons, please contact Bradley for guitar or Mark for drumming for more information.

These have been updated for the classes in 2021-22, so click on the link for the class you will be in in September.

Teachers are looking forward to posting their ‘Flipping Greenfields’ videos every Friday next term in time for the weekend. Each one is all about next week’s learning, so will get your child prepared for a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.
