Who We Serve
Many of us don't realize the vast number of our neighbors who live in group homes, nursing homes, foster placements, or other forms of residential environments. Each day there are more and more people admitted due to the inability to receive the care they need in other situations. Many of these facilities take 85-100% of the income these people have from social security, disability or retirement funds. That leaves many of our friends & loved ones with monthly incomes of less than $150 monthly, and some with none at all. While some placements cover the costs of basic needs, most of them do not cover prescriptions, personal supplies, co-pays, or other necessities. Most of this population have Medicaid or Medicare, and unbelievably many do not receive dental or psychiatric services due to their inability to pay.
A grandmother of five
could sit in a residential facility with no dentures to properly eat her meals, or worse in constant pain. Dental services are not covered by many insurances, including Medicaid if you are over 21.
A 24 year old soccer player
suffering from mental illness could be isolated from community outings at his group home or even family visits due to his maladaptive behaviors that could easily be controlled with medication prescribed by psychiatrists everyday.
A 42-year old architect
has a horrible accident. They have no spouse or close relatives. Their recovery is extensive in hospital, then they are transferred to a rehab facility to further recuperate. If they can't provide their own care adequately after their rehabilitation, they could be in for an indefinite transfer to a nursing home based on their insurance and ability to pay.
It is possible
to receive nursing home care for little or no cost to you or your family, the process to qualify is rigorous. Some people are better served by assisted living facilities, as they do not require consistent nursing care. These facilities are not covered by most insurances, though they are vital to our communities, and families have to pay out of pocket for each day their loved ones spend there. These costs can range from $3,000 to more than $5500 dollars monthly.
Children
placed in protective custody sometimes end up in juvenile home environments ranging from foster homes, group homes, and etc. These children still deserve to feel a sense of normalcy as they adjust. Outings, mentorship, rewards, clothes, outlets: so many things we assume are just naturally included can make a huge difference.
Donations
Foster care, assisted living, dementia and long term care, group homes, halfway homes, shelters: These programs and facilities are here to serve our loved ones who have limited options.
Most of these residential environments only cover the basic requirements, if any. For many, this does not include the cost of prescriptions, recreational trips, personal hygienic supplies, or etc. Even more so, some of these individuals have no coverage for the care they so desperately need.
Where the insurance companies and residential homes leave off, we begin. The thousands of individuals in these environments are who we seek to serve every day.
Filling in the gaps for those in residential environments is our number one goal. Whether through food assistance, personal supplies, free dental or psychiatric services, monetary support by grants, or just a frequent visit, we are ready to serve. We are privately funded by the donations of caring community members just like you.
Small businesses, we want your services!
If you are a bakery, consider donating your days end items. If you are a professional practitioner, we need your time and consultations. No matter what your field, your services are important to us. Raffling donated goods, health fairs, and community awareness--These are some of the ways we gather the funds to make this program possible. So, before reaching for your wallet, consider what services you can donate today.
We gladly and graciously accept monetary donations. Holding Hands has no extra employee costs. All of our assistants, drivers, and call team members volunteer their time to make a difference. This allows more of the monetary donations we receive to filter back into the community. Feel free to call for more information, we appreciate your consideration.
