  • Last week, we welcome new TAMIU Chief of Police Cordelia G. Perez to campus. She’s the first female Hispanic Chief of Police at TAMIU and brings vast law enforcement experience here…in addition to being a TAMIU alum (’14)!   • The University's Office of Career Services will host the recruitment event this Tuesday, Oct. 4 from 2 - 3:30 p.m. in the Academic Innovation Center, room 128. Guests from the U.S. Consulate in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico will take part in a panel discussion with Q&A opportunities to help students learn about job opportunities in foreign service.   • Please join us for another special on-campus COVID-19 Bivalent Booster Clinic this Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022 in the Student Center Rotunda from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. ONLY. Enrolled students who receive the Bivalent Booster during the clinic will be eligible for a $25 Starbucks gift card. This is a public vaccine clinic presented by our partners, the Gateway Community Health Center.
  • It’s National Cybersecurity Awareness Month! Today we are all connected to our smartphones or a computer wherever we go, and because of that our world is becoming increasingly dependent on cybersecurity. TAMIU is proud to be a part of this national observance focused on learning about the latest ways to protect the University, and our friends and families online. More information is here.
  • On Tuesday, Oct. 11 you’ll have an opportunity to meet with the Laredo-born and raised, acclaimed author Katie Gutierrez of the best-selling debut novel “More Than You’ll Ever Know.” Katie will share a public reading, talk and book-signing at the Academic Innovation Center from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Here’s more.
  • Are you ready to take the next step in your education? TAMIU hosts its Fall 2022 Graduate School Open House, Thursday, Oct. 13 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center. Admission is free and open to the public

  • Mark your calendar for the IBC Keynote Speaker Series Lecture, “How Closing the Borders Heated up the U.S. Labor Market” on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. Our guest speaker is Dr. Pia Orrenius, a senior economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. It’s free and a reception begins at 5:30 p.m.
  • If it’s October, it must be time for Maroon Madness. Set your calendars for the fun, scheduled Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Kinesiology and Convocation Building (KCB).
  • As is our annual tradition, TAMIU will host the 2022 Walk to End Alzheimer’s here on campus on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022. Team TAMIU seeks additional members from the University community of students, faculty, administrators, staff and alumni to join us in this worthy cause that impacts so many. Join Team TAMIU here.
  • Please note that COVID-19 continues to be a threat here, across our State, nation, and world. The use of recommended face coverings/masks, and rigorous hand-washing can help reduce your exposure risk. Learn more about on-campus testing.
  • Monkeypox is a rare disease caused by infection with the monkeypox virus. As the disease also remains a threat to college campuses, TAMIU students are encouraged to remain informed about the disease. Monkeypox Information specific to colleges and universities is available on our COVID-19 Response Center website.

New TAMIU Police Chief Steps Into History as First Hispanic Female Police Dept. Leader

Cordelia G. Perez, the first female Hispanic Chief of Police at TAMIU and sole female police chief in the 11-campus Texas A&M University System, was introduced to the campus and community by TAMIU president Dr. Pablo Arenaz at a press conference Friday, September 30 in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library’s Great Room. Perez was joined by TAMIU faculty, staff and students, members of her family and her extended local law enforcement community brothers and sisters.

TAMIU Hosts State Department Foreign Service Recruitment Event

TAMIU's Office of Career Services will host the recruitment event Tuesday, Oct. 4 from 2 - 3:30 p.m. at the Academic Innovation Center, room 128. Guests from the U.S. Consulate in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico will take part in a panel discussion with Q&A opportunities to help students learn about the variety of job opportunities in the Foreign Service. Attendees will also gain personal insight on the diversity of backgrounds and perspectives needed to become a Foreign Service Officer.

Bivalent Booster Clinic Happening Thursday, Oct. 6

A Bivalent Booster Vaccine Clinic is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Student Center Rotunda. The clinic is open to students, faculty and staff members, as well as the public. Students receiving their Bivalent booster during the clinic may be eligible to receive a $25 Starbucks gift card, while supplies last. The clinic is offered through Gateway Community Health Center and the University's Student Health Services.

TAMIU Presents Book Reading by Acclaimed Laredo-Born and Raised Author Katie Gutierrez Tuesday, Oct. 11

Laredo-born and raised author Katie Gutierrez will present a special reading and talk from her best-selling and highly acclaimed debut novel, "More Than You'll Ever Know," during her visit at Texas A&M International University Tuesday, Oct. 11 from 6 - 8:30 p.m. in the Academic Innovation Center, room 126.

The presentation, titled, "An Evening with the Author: Katie Gutierrez," is organized by the TAMIU College of Arts and Sciences' Department of Humanities. The reading will be followed by a book signing. The event is free and open to the public.

TAMIU Graduate School Hosts Open House Oct. 13

TAMIU will host its Fall 2022 Graduate School Open House, Thursday, Oct. 13 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center. Admission is free and open to the public. Prospective students will have a chance to meet with program advisors, faculty, and Graduate School representatives to learn more about the application process. Attendees can also enter their names for a chance to win a $2,000 scholarship.

Ballet Nepantla Returns to TAMIU for 'Mística' Performances Oct. 15 - 16

A celebration and commemoration of ancestral heritage and Día de Muertos by New York City-based Ballet Nepantla will soon take the stage at TAMIU's Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Theater. Scheduled performances are Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. Donations in support of the University’s Dance Scholarships are greatly appreciated. Masks are recommended.

Maroon Madness Happening Tuesday, Oct. 18

Save the date! Meet our TAMIU Athletics Men’s and Women’s basketball teams and coaching staff during Maroon Madness Tuesday, Oct. 18. The event includes contests and prizes. Doors open at 8:15 p.m. but you'll want to join us for the pre-game festivities, starting at 6 p.m. on the front steps of the Kinesiology-Convocation Building. The event is free and open to the public.
