CCS NEWSLETTER APRIL 2022

WELCOME TO OUR CLIFTON NEWSLETTER

As the Easter Holidays approach and I take some time to reflect on our achievements over the last term I am immensely proud of all that we have done, staff, students and families. We know how challenging the world currently is, and so therefore it is more important than ever that we continue to work together as one Clifton family.

It has been an incredibly busy term and great to see many of The many activities that we have always enjoyed at Clifton returning, such as our sporting fixtures and extracurricular clubs. it is also been great to see the return of trips and cultural experiences which we know are invaluable to our students. Our main aim is always that students leave both able and qualified, and as we look forward to seeing our Year 11 students sit their GCSE examinations in the coming weeks, I would like to wish them all well, especially given the tough conditions they have experienced in the run-up to these exams.

Please enjoy reading about everything we have been doing at Clifton, and finally I would like to wish you and your families and safe and relaxing Easter Break.

ANNA LIDSTER

This Easter we also bid farewell to Anna Lidster our Chair of Governors.

Anna has been a crucial part of the Clifton family for many years, throughout the time that her own children were students here, and then as the Chair of Governors since 2014.

Her unwavering support of the school and its community have been invaluable. She has been a strong believer in the journey that Clifton has taken since her appointment, and we appreciate all the hard work, determination, and endless hours that she has freely given to the school.

She has been a true believer in The Clifton Way and we would like to say a huge thank you for all of her hard work.

Y9 & Y10 CELEBRATE SCIENCE WEEK WITH SHEFFIELD HALLAM UNIVERSITY

During Science Week, Y9 and Y10 students took part in Science-based activities at Sheffield Hallam University.

They had great fun learning about Science across other topics of the curriculum, like construction, and potential careers linked to this.

HT3 100 CLUB REWARD EVENT

On Friday 18th February, we held our HT3 100 Club Event to celebrate those students who had 100% attendance during this period.

An astounding 246 students had attended every single day during HT3, and were able to make the most of some delicious donuts and a disco as well.

We look forward to seeing more students attending the 100 Club Event during HT4!

AMRC ENGINEERING WORKSHOP

In March, AMRC visited Clifton and engineering students took part in a workshop to create a 16 module big wheel.

The wheel was made of only paper, tape, nuts, and bolts. The students started by having a production line to make the components and then in part two of the workshop, they built their wheels. The students had to develop problem-solving, teamwork, and resilience skills and it was great to see how proud they were of their achievements.

Congratulations to our engineers of the future.

GET UP TO SPEED WITH STEM

A couple of weeks ago, we took a lovely group of 44 students to the Get up to Speed with STEM event at Magna.

The event covered every kind of Science and technology and the students had the opportunity to carry out a huge range of activities, including wiring up circuits, using VR headsets, driving mini-robots around, landing a virtual aircraft, and dressing up as bomb disposal teams.

The highlight for most was getting to sit behind the wheel of a real MacLaren supercar!

ROTHERHAM SCHOOLS DANCE COMPETITION

The afterschool KS3 Dance Club and the KS4 dancers took part in Rotherham Schools Dance competition on 31st March, held at Aston School.

It was the first time in two years that the competition had taken place and students were very nervous about performing. However, they all danced like true professionals to a full audience of students from around the Borough. The competition was tough with some excellent dancing from all the schools taking part. The highlight of the evening came when two schools from our trust won both the KS3 and KS4 categories.

Clifton KS3 and Rawmarsh KS4 won the top spot to leave as Rotherham school dance champions 2022. We are very proud of them!
