Cleethorpes developed as a fishing village. By the time of 1801 census the population was 284 people. The 1820s saw the first development of Cleethorpes as a health holiday resort, with sea-bathing and the taking of medical waters becoming fashionable. By 1831 the population increased to 497 people.

Cleethorpes is home to Blundoll park. The home ground of the football team ( Grimsby town ), one of the few English league clubs with town or city name to have their home ground in a different community.

Cleethorpes coast

The award winning Cleethorpes coast light railway is one of Britains oldest seaside miniature railways and has been for generations. Sit back and enjoy a 4 mile long return journey along the picturesque Humberside Coast, behind one of out historic locomotives.

The lollipop Train

Take a ride on the seafront on the lollipop train, taking you from the north promenade and linking up with the light rail way, near the leisure centre. The train won a gold award in 2010 for the best attraction experience.

If you are feeling sporty, Cleethorpes Leisure Centre is the place to be, with its indoor pool, including a wave machine, aqua slide, a well equipped gym and a large spots hall.
