Behind the Scenes of Prom By Sophia Mosser

Student Council spends hours deciding upon the countless details that go into making prom a magical experience. Whether it is the decorations or the lighting, prom is an extremely consuming event and has much more to it than what meets the eye.

Invitation to this year's WKHS Prom

Student Council Officers, Evelyn White, Rachael McCague, Kacy Kohler and Sylvia Shafran and two advisors, Mr. Vincent and Mrs. Glaros, all decided upon having the WKHS Prom at the Franklin Park Conservatory. According to White, "gardens are beautiful and perfect for creating a fun and elegant event."

The theme of this years Prom is "Enchanted Fairy Garden," which fits perfectly with the scenery of the venue. Audrey Emami, Student Council member, explains the details behind the decor: "We had to go on amazon and buy things like fake moss, fake sticks and fairy lights. All together, the student council members chose the crown." These details are often overlooked, but they are crucial to the process of planning an unforgettable night.

Tickets for prom cost $32 and this fee covers everything for Prom. Originally, a $1,000 deposit is put down but the budget is between $10,000 and $13,000. Not only does this cover the parking fee, the money collected pays for the venue and all of the decorations, food and drinks. Everything involved in Prom is paid for by the tickets. Student Council hopes to have around 300 to 350 guests, which would raise about $12,000.

Prom could not be possible without those who spend hours on making sure every detail is covered and done well. Many things are overlooked from the outside, but these elements are what makes this night so exciting and special.
