Superintendent's Summary DR. JACK PARKER ~ 4.28.2022

We are almost in our final month of the 2021-2022 school year, and while it will be one for the books, we have an incredible amount of celebrations both in and out of the classroom. So many of our co- and extra-curricular programs have continued to improve and provide opportunities for students to excel. We are having another banner year in athletics, but many aren’t aware of the success of our academic teams, the incredible performing arts at Mt. Vernon, and the high quality products our students and staff put together. From Band and Choir to Theater and Dance, our performance arts students are amazing. Coupled with an outstanding visual arts program, I feel what we offer students is extraordinary! And our purposeful mission to provide an exemplary education is highlighted in our everyday academic successes and accomplishments!

As we grow, we will continue to provide support to our students and staff as they reach new heights. The referendum on the May 3rd ballot will allow this to continue to grow by maintaining our relatively low average class sizes as well as provide additional pay to recruit and retain the amazing teachers and classified staff for our students and their programs. We are still recovering from a 5-year pay freeze and passing a referendum will put us close to 2nd place in our county for starting teachers as well as bring all of our classified staff members to a minimum of $16 per hour. Additionally, the referendum passing will allow us to have a School Resource Officer in every school and two at the high school. This referendum is even more important to our schools than we ever could have imagined.

Please take the time to be informed by visiting our website and reading or viewing the multiple short videos explaining referendum facts. Also, please vote! Our society needs more engagement, and this is the perfect time to model for our students civic engagement through voting. See you at the polls!
