Wounded Warriors Project Odyssey Retreat by Colin Shelton

The Wounded Warrior Project stands to serve and empower wounded veterans and service members who have served our country since September 11, 2001. The Project provides aid to our warriors and their families by counseling, funding, and supporting them. Their goal is to help these heroes transition as smoothly as possible back to civilian life, despite returning home with new challenges -physical, mental, or both.

Campus Recreation & Wellness along with East Carolina University are honored to host our first ever Wounded Warrior Retreat, with attendees from all over the southeast. Given the opportunity to provide a stronger connection for our military families is a huge pleasure and small way to repay these men and women, given they have committed their life to serve our country. Helping serve the Wounded Warrior Project is rewarding in itself but additionally our Adventure Leadership Staff are able to guide a different population they have not had the opportunity to serve. Every group is different and must face their own unique challenges when working through team building activities.

East Carolina is a university committed to always supporting our service men and women. ECU is a Yellow Ribbon university, meaning ECU volunteered to be a part of the Post 9/11 Bill to encourage veterans to apply for additional aid toward their tuition and fees to help pay for college.
