Note from our Head

My thanks to all the staff and children who have put so much effort into Assessment week over the last few days. I have no doubt all the hard work you're putting in will make the upcoming Christmas break all the more enjoyable.

On the subject of Christmas a lot of filming has been going on around the school for our Christmas content which we look forward to sharing with you all before the end of the term. Yours truly may even be making an appearance!

In the meantime I wish you all wonderful weekends,

Moyra Thompson

Parking

A reminder that, as per the letter which went out earlier in the week, parents and carers should not stop on the double red lines along Thurlow Park Road when dropping off or picking up their children. It is highly dangerous to Oakfield families, members of the public and our neighbours, particularly in Hamlet Mews, where visibility is greatly reduced by cars that are illegally parked. Thank you for your co-operation and understanding.

Bikes and Scooters

We have some fantastic new bike sheds and scooter pods in both the Prep and Pre-Prep playgrounds to park bikes and scooters at the start of the school day.

In less happy news there are a number of unclaimed bikes and scooters in the Prep playground that do not appear to be used or belong to anybody. They will be left for you to claim on Monday in the Prep playground and if they are not claimed, they will be recycled / given to charity at the end of the week.

In pods we trust

Go Ape Christmas Card Winner

Many congratulation to Philip Lee in Year 4 has been voted the winner of Go Ape's festive competition!!! The judges said

"We loved Philip’s Christmas card design and imagining a Go Ape site as Santa’s factory with lots of cheeky monkeys as elves – just brilliant!"

Philip’s design will now be made into Go Ape’s 2020 Christmas Card, and if that wasn't enough he also won a Go Ape Family Pass and a merchandise bundle. Well done Philip!

We promoted this competition in our very own Weekly Newsletter so make sure you keep reading every week to find out about more competitions like this one!

We are going ape for this design!

UPPER FOUNDATION

Dear Parents/Carers,

This week we have been continuing our learning about children around the world. We have looked at what classrooms look like in different countries and have been able to spot similarities and differences. We have been reading letters from pen pals all over the world and writing our own, thinking of questions we would like to ask children from other countries.

In Maths, we have been learning about time. We have been measuring one minute and challenging ourselves to complete different activities in a minute.

In Art we have been looking at the Brazillian artist Beatriz Milhazes, who uses mixed media and bright, geometric shapes to create her intricate works of art. We have recreated our own version for our 2021 calendars.

Yesterday we had a special visit from Zoo Lab and loved seeing all the different creatures!

With best wishes,

Miss Treppass and Mrs. Barrett Nnochiri

Game of Snakes and ladders, anyone?

Year 2

Fun with Fractions

Year 2 had fun with fractions this week. They worked with halves, quarters and thirds! The children are always willing to challenge themselves and demonstrating super resilience when tackling new concepts.

Having a fractionally better time
“I can fold the square into two halves and quarters” Zara
“Look my square has four triangles, that’s four quarters” Asha
“I’m going to try folding my rectangle into thirds” Jacob

The children had fun during sports on Wednesday. They are developing good ball handling skills and eye-hand co-ordination. We are so pleased to see such teamwork and great sportsmanship taking place amongst our Year 2 children.

This Sporting Life

YEAR 4

Some great creativity on show for the Art House Competition from Year 4. See later on in the newsletter for the submissions from all years!

Year 4's on the doors!

YEAR 6

Science

The children engaged in different activities to measure how it affected their breathing rates. They devised the activities to test their breathing rates and recorded and analysed the results.

No time to take a breath!

Art House Competiton

Owing to the need to stay in bubbles the Art House Competition is taking a slightly different form this year. All house members in each year are doing a 1/6 of an artwork. Then their work is added to the ones their fellow house mates from other years have created. The submissions from each house are below - we haven't said which artwork is from which house so the judging can be fully impartial. Which one do you like the most?
