A Comfort Statement

I'm about as comfortable with technology (and ever newer technology) as learning to ride a unicycle. I mean, I know how to ride a bicycle, so how hard can one less wheel be?

My research identity began in and through rhetorical invention, with a focus on how we come up with ideas for rhetorical practices, but with a specialized interest in the role mediating technologies play on that process of idea creation. Since then, I've basically just committed to the arts and practices of innovation, in and through technologies, with an increasing focus on how that operates in higher education.

Pedagogical Possibilities

I have and will definitely continue to use Adobe CC Express image in my classrooms. The TPMS activity works well to help facilitate discussion and engagement. I've also used the CC Express Web page before and while it has ready affordances for essay writing, I'm thinking maybe some portfolio work or integrating its multimedia communications into Minecraft EDU (specifically, as a weblink NPCs provide players as they move through a space).

Grounded Beginnings

For this activity, if I have to choose one or two, I would focus on either making a traditional comparative analysis (assignment #1 in ENG-W131 at IUB) an Adobe CC Express Webpage (or use the Web page as an extension of the Minecraft EDU space. The former is pretty straightforward, but the latter invites a kind of play with form and format as students may create one fuller essay in Adobe CC Express Web page (formerly Spark Page) or a series of smaller posts so that the content they want to explore (in research and as expository writing practice) may manifest in developed fragments that need the context of the game to make sense.
