Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Babson to Sweet-16

Returning to the NCAA Tournament this past weekend, Colby patiently awaited their opponent on Mayflower Hill. On Saturday Babson took care of business against Westfield State (23-8) to set up their matchup with the Mules on Sunday.

Colby slowed down the potent offense of the Beavers, holding the visitors to a max of three goals in a single frame. The Mules, on the other hand, tallied early and often, leading 11-5 at the half and 16-8 after three frames. Goalie Sarah Hearns reached double digits in saves (10), including three saves in the fourth quarter as Colby defeated Babson 20-8 to advance to the NCAA Sweet-16.

Cami McDonald bookended the scoring for Colby netting the very first and very last goals of the day. She led the Mules with six goals. Gianna Bruno recorded nine points with one goal and eight assists.

The Mules are now 13-5, ranked 12th in NCAA Division III. They will face off against #6 TCNJ this coming Saturday at Middlebury College. Game time is slated for 2:30pm.

Women's Lacrosse Earns Five All-NESCAC Selections

Gianna Bruno and Elizabeth Hennessey were announced with First Team honorees, while Julia Jardina, Annie Eddy, and Jillian Mazzocca made the Second team.

Softball Tops Polar Bears for First NESCAC Tourney Victory Since 2003

Entering the NESCAC Tournament for the second consecutive year, the #4 Mules opened the single elimination bracket with a matchup with #5 Bowdoin College. During the regular season Colby split with the Polar Bears (10-5, 2-4).

Despite Bowdoin touching the plate first, Colby jumped ahead with one run in the third, two in the fifth, and two more in the sixth. Bowdoin crept to within a run in the top of the seventh inning, but with the bases loaded pitcher Abby Orso was able to get the final out to leave three Polar Bears stranded. With the 5-4 win, Colby earned its first NESCAC Tournament victory since 2003.

Facing the tournament host in Game 2, top-seeded #6 Tufts University, the Mules kept the Jumbos close early, down 3-1 after three innings. Tufts struck for six runs in the fourth and added three in the top of the seventh to extend their lead. Colby scored two in the fifth and one in the seventh but was unable to complete the comeback, falling to their hosts 12-4.

Tufts fell to Williams in the final 3-1.

Across the two games, Colby collected 22 total hits led by Chloe Wilcox who went 5-8 at the plate with three runs scored and three RBI. Amanda Cabral, Carissa Cassidy, and Courtney Schumacher each tallied three hits in the two-game set.

Colby ends their stellar season with a 24-14 record, surpassing 20 wins for the first time since the NESCAC opened the conference tournament in 2001.

Mules Push Past Bowdoin, Secure 3rd Place in NESCAC

Selected as the host of the NESCAC tournament, the Mules were excited to take on the three remaining teams for the double elimination event held on Mayflower Hill Friday through Sunday.

In Friday afternoon's opener, Colby jumped ahead of the reigning champions of Middlebury College with five runs in the first inning. The Panthers settled in and struck for two in the sixth and three in the seventh, and entered the bottom of the ninth inning down 6-5. Behind a solo homerun, a single, a walk and an intentional pass, Middlebury plated the winning run via balk, topping Colby 7-6.

In Saturday's first elimination game, the Mules faced off against Bowdoin College, a team that Colby swept in three games during the regular season. Staying true to form, the Mules tallied 18 hits to complete the season sweep of the Polar Bears 14-7.

The second elimination game of the day was a repeat from the afternoon before, as Colby and Middlebury clashed for the second time in two days. The Panthers built a lead of 6-3 after five innings and 9-3 after six, pacing out to a 12-6 victory.

Middlebury fell to Tufts 12-1 in the Championship Sunday morning.

Colby concludes their season with a 25-12 record, marking their third 20-win season since the NESCAC began holding the conference championship in 2001 (2015, 2022, 2023). The 25 victories tops the 24-win mark from a season ago.

Track & Field Battle at NEICAAA Outdoor Championships

Facing their toughest competition of the season with the best teams from New England across DI, DII, and DIII, the Colby Track & Field team gathered some highlight performances in the meet hosted by Northeastern University.

Standout performance came from both the Men’s and Women’s 4x400m relay team as they notched second all-time school records and earned All-New England recognition. Overall as a team, the Men finished 27th with seven points and the Women finished in 29th with 8.5 points.

Crew Competes in National Invitational Rowing Championships

The Colby Crew team headed to Worcester, Massachusetts over the weekend for the National Invitational Rowing Championships. Each boat was seeded based on its spring results to date placing the Men’s V8 boat 11th, Women’s V8 boat 19th, and the Women’s 2nd V8 boat 12th.

The Men’s V8 battled hard against their opponents to secure a spot in the morning's 3rd level final and placed second in the afternoon final for an overall 14th place finish (7th for NESCAC schools). The Women’s V8 boat also secured a spot in the 3rd level final and an overall 14th place finish (also 7th for NESCAC), five spots ahead of their original placement. The Women’s 2nd V8 boat grabbed a spot in the Petit Final finishing sixth for an overall 12th place finish.

This race also represented the NESCAC Rowing Championship where Williams took both the Men and Women’s titles.
