The Importance of Well Being
La importancia del bienestar
I am very conscious that we have all experienced a real mixture of emotions during the whole period of lockdown. You, your child, a friend or a family member may have experienced emotional, physical or social anxieties due this global pandemic.
Soy muy consciente de que todos hemos experimentado una mezcla de emociones durante el periodo de cuarentena. Ustedes, sus hijos, amigos o familiares pueden haber pasado por ansiedad que afecte a aspectos físicos, emocionales y sociales durante esta pandemia global.
Being told to remain in your home without the luxury of being outside or travelling to see friends and loved ones is stressful enough and not something we have ever experienced before. Not being in control of a situation or being able to make decisions creates anxiety itself.
Estar obligados a quedarse en casa, sin poder disfrutar del lujo de salir al exterior o de viajar a ver a los amigos y seres queridos es lo genera bastante estrés y no tiene ningún precedente. No poder tener el control de una situación o no poder tomar decisiones ya crea ansiedad de por sí.
With that in mind as a school we have created a new Well Being website that can be located in the BSM Parent Portal. The Well Being website is for students, their families and colleagues at the school. We have shared with you well being ideas for emotional, physical and social activities.
Pensando en ello, hemos creado como colegio un sitio web sobre Bienestar, dirigido a alumnos, sus familias y compañeros del colegio. Está también localizable en el Portal BSM. Hemos compartido ideas para que tengan recursos y actividades que atiendan aspectos emocionales, físicos y sociales.
You will also see that we have a new Well Being Team should you wish to contact someone at school to ask a question or just have a chat about a problem that you can talk through. Our new Well Being Team are Rachel Evans, Vicky Green, Escarlata Godino-Ríos, Lisa Ann Jones, Janet Legler, Daisy Young-Alls and myself. We look forward to receiving any feedback about our new important Well Being website and we hope you enjoy participating in some of the activities that we suggest supports a positive state of well being.
También podrán comprobar que tenemos un nuevo EQUIPO DE BIENESTAR, por si quisieran contactar con alguien del colegio para hacer una pregunta o simplemente charlar si tuvieran algún problema del que deseen hablar. Nuestro equipo está compuesto por Rachel Evans, Vicky Green, Escarlata Godino Ríos, Lisa Ann Jones, Janet Legler, Daisy Young-Alls y yo misma. Nos encantaría recibir sus impresiones sobre este nuevo programa que ponemos en marcha y la web y esperamos que participen y disfruten de las actividades que sugerimos para mantener un buen grado de bienestar.

The children in Miss Gem's Reception have enjoyed learning about the different ways in which sea animals move and interpreting their actions in their own way. Oliver was keen to show his interpretations of some sea creatures. Can you guess what they are?
Los niños en clase de Miss Gem han disfrutado aprendiendo sobre las formas en las que se mueven los animales del mar y han interpretado esos movimientos a su manera. Oliver se presentó voluntario a imitar los movimientos de algunas criaturas marinas. ¿Sabéis decir cuáles?
Another of their challenges was to create an aquarium out of an egg box and add sea creatures using different materials. Check out Alicia's fantastic creation! What sea creatures can you see?

Ms Ana Belen
Ms Teresa and Ms Ana Belen would like to congratulate all the girls and boys in Reception for responding so well to the live meets that we have been enjoying during the last few weeks. The children have been very enthusiastic at speaking and listening during the Show and Tell sessions. They have especially enjoyed being truly creative during our topic linked to 'Under the Sea'. The wonderful results achieved are these examples of beautiful aquariums created and designed alongside other pieces of colourful art work.
Miss Teresa y Miss Ana Belén quieren felicitar a todas las niñas y niños de Reception por responder tan bien a las reuniones en directo que se han estado celebrando en las últimas semanas. Los niños han sido muy entusiastas a la hora de hablar y escuchar durante las sesiones de "Show and Tell". En especial han disfrutado de su creatividad durante nuestro tema "Under the Sea". Son ejemplos de ello los maravillosos acuarios creados y diseñados junto con otros trabajos llenos de color.

Year 1
Miss Mercedes
This week, the children in Year 1 have been studying another Julia Donaldson book, 'Zog'. Zog is a dragon. The children have been able to do lots of different writing activities based on the story.
Esta semana los niños de Year 1 han estado viendo otro libro de Julia Donaldson, "Zog". Zog es un dragón. Los niños han podido hacer muchas actividades de escritura basándose en este cuento.
They were able to write a list of the things Zog had to learn at dragon school, and create an adventure they would go on with Zog. The princess in 'Zog' wished she could be something other than a princess when she grew up, so the children in Year 1 thought and wrote about what they want to do when they grow up (there are some wonderful aspirations!)
Pudieron escribir una lista de cosas que Zog tenía que aprender en la escuela de dragones e imaginar una aventura que emprenderían con Zog. La princesa del cuento Zog deseaba ser otra cosa distinta cuando fuese mayor, así que los niños de Year 1 pensaron en ello y escribieron lo que querían ser ellos mismos cuando sean mayores (¡hay algunas aspiraciones maravillosas!).
The children also practised reading a part of the story, and identified the rhyming words. This was consolidating the work they did last week, finding the rhyming pairs in 'The Gruffalo.'
También practicaron la lectura de unos pasajes del cuento e identificaron las palabras que riman. Así han ido consolidando el trabajo que hicieron la semana pasada, en el que encontraron las rimas de "The Gruffalo".
Year 3

Year 3 had a lot of fun with another live baking session last week! This time, they made carrot cake! So many happy smiling faces! · Year 3 se lo pasó en grande con otra sesión de cocina la semana pasada. Esta vez hicieron tarta de zanahoria. ¡Cuántas caritas felices!

Year 3 have been learning how to conduct an interview in their Spanish class with Seño Laura. Noa practised her journalism skills by interviewing her Dad. Well done Noa, fantastic work!

Year 4 have started learning about prehistoric times in Spanish and have started by doing some wonderful cave paintings.

Last week, the Primary EAL children completed scavenger hunts around their houses for items containing 12 phonic sounds. Once they had found the 12 objects they made labelled treasure maps for their siblings/parents to find the items! We all had so much fun hunting and hiding.
La semana pasada los niños de Inglés EAL completaron expediciones de búsqueda en sus casas para encontrar 12 cosas que contuvieran determinados fonemas. Una vez que encontraron esos 12 objetos, crearon mapas del tesoro con etiquetas para que sus hermanos o padres los encontraran. ¡Nos los pasamos muy bien encontrando y escondiendo cosas en casa!
Music
Our Music teacher, Mr Bernal, sent us some video clips of his students practising. We are really pleased that the children have been able to carry on learning and enjoying music at home.

Ms Upton´s class have been studying the ballad, The Lady of Shalott. Charlotte (with some help from her sister Bethany) created this very imaginative video.

Year 9 Science

Year 9 Science have now finished their KS3 work and have just started their IGCSE level programme. They recently had the task of researching nuclear power. Here are just three samples of the fantastic projects they produced.
Los alumnos de Year 9 de Ciencias han terminado su carga lectiva de KS3 y han empezado con el Programa de IGCSE. Hace poco se documentaron sobre la energía nuclear y aquí tenemos tres ejemplos de los trabajos tan fantásticos que presentaron.
Sparx · Maths
Year 7 and year 8 have been part of the Sparx maths trial that started the week before the lockdown. Maths teachers are now using the lesson function to set online work for students. Questions come with their very own help video to support students and teachers are always available on google meet should a student get stuck.
Los alumnos de Year 7 y Year 8 formaron parte de una prueba de matemáticas con Sparx la semana previa al confinamiento. Los profesores de Matemáticas están usando ahora la función "clase" para poner deberes online a los alumnos. Las preguntas vienen con su propio vídeo de ayuda para servir de apoyo a los alumnos, aunque los profesores están siempre disponibles en Google Meet si los alumnos se quedan atascados.
For each question they do students are awarded XP points. These points will eventually lead to House points and certificates. Over the last 6 weeks the Maths department have been recording these XP points and rewarding students' efforts with house points.

Ms Upton sent us an English newspaper which is ideal for teenagers who want to keep up to date with the latest news and which is adapted to their age and interests. During this time of confinement, this publication is free of charge and we thought that it would be of interest to our students.
Ms Upton nos envía una gaceta en inglés ideal para adolescentes y jóvenes que quieran mantenerse al día con noticias adaptadas a su edad e intereses. En estos tiempos de confinamiento es una edición abierta y hemos pensado que podría ser del interés de nuestros alumnos.
After School Activity Weekly Challenge · Reto semanal de extraescolares
Each week, Dani and the monitors will set a challenge connected to the after school activities which you can do at home and record on video. Send your videos to Dani by email and each week, the after school activities department will choose the best ones who will receive a trophy. This week's challenge comes from Sergio our athletics and girl's football monitor and it is tough! It is called the up-down challenge and is for parents as well as children. Before you start, there are a few things to remember. You must warm up for at least 12 minutes before you start this challenge. For children under 12 years of age, you can do the challenge without any weights. Children between 12 and 15 should do have a 1 1/2 litre bottle of water in each hand and children over 15 and adults should use a 5 litre or 8 litre bottle of water! I bet nobody can beat Sergio's time of 3 minutes 15 seconds! Come on, prove me wrong!
El reto de esta semana viene de Sergio, nuestro monitor de Atletismo y de Fútbol Femenino. Y avisamos, ¡es un reto duro! Este ejercicio de carga se dirige tanto a niños como a sus padres. Antes de que empecéis, unos consejos que hay que tener presente: debéis calentar durante al menos 12 minutos antes de iniciar este reto. Los niños de menos de 12 años pueden hacer este reto sin pesas. Los chicos de entre 12 y 15 años deben llevar un peso de 1,5 litros en cada brazo y los chicos de más de 15 años en adelante, incluyendo adultos, podéis usar una garrafa de 5 o de 8 litros de agua. ¡Seguro que nadie puede mejorar el tiempo de Sergio, 3:15 minutos! ¡Vamos! ¿Sois capaces de batir esta marca?
