JAMBOREE and SCOTTISH COUNTY FINALS

Overview

On an annual basis County teams of eight made up of their best low handicapped players, compete in the County Jamboree. During the three day event the Renfrewshire team competes in foursomes and singles match play against the other West Division counties; Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and Dunbartonshire and Argyll. The team with the most points at the end of the divisional Jamboree wins and goes forward to the Scottish County Finals to play against the winners of the other divisional finals.

Looking Back

This competition first commenced in 1909 with the very first County Match between Argyllshire and Renfrewshire at Killermont Golf Club on March 31st, 1909. Renfrewshire won 4 - 3.

In 1987 the format changed to a Jamboree between the West Division member Counties. Renfrewshire won the Inter County West Division Matches this year and went on to win the Scottish County Finals at St. Andrews (for the eighth time) after beating East Lothian, Dumfriesshire and Aberdeenshire.

For more in-depth history of the Scottish County Finals have a look at the extensive section on this competition in the RLCGA Centenary Book 1909 - 2009.

In 2010 and 2017 Renfrewshire again won the Scottish County Finals with the winning 2017 team pictured below and further photographs of their triumphant win can be found in this album;

2022 Jamboree

The Pandemic prevented the 2020 Jamboree from going ahead and the 2021 Jamboree at Cardross GC went ahead with an adjusted format of only singles matches to ensure social distancing.

The 2021 Renfrewshire socially distanced team are pictured below;

Happy to say that the 2022 Jamboree returned to its usual foursomes and singles format and was played between 13th and 15th June at Strathaven GC. The team are pictured below and were delighted to have Junior Rosie Maguire join their ranks.

The winners of the Jamboree, for the first time since 2005 was Lanarkshire County, who had a very strong team and they subsequently went on to win the Scottish County Finals in Kirkcaldy held between 26th - 28th August. A fabulous and long overdue win.
