Miles Mann - Robotics/Automation

After spending the past 6 months working at Smith Metal Products (a metal injection molding company), I have discovered that I want to pursue a career in the field of robotics. Currently, I am a machine operator. Through my Career Launch Explore and Experience courses, I earned my OSHA 10 safety credential, further developed skills my employer is looking for, and gained additional career experience. After graduating this spring, I plan to attend Central Lakes College to earn a degree in robotics and automation. Over the summer, I will continue my work at Smith. - Miles Mann

Miles has taken a variety of Engineering, Trades, and Manufacturing courses including metals, electricity, power mechanics, and CAD. In addition to developing his technical and employability skills, Miles has been a leader in our building as a Link Leader for current 9th grade students. Ninth graders are welcomed into our school and mentored throughout the school year by their Link Leaders.

DECA State Finalists

A career and technical education student club focused on those with business related career interests.

Remy Keis, Hannah Winnick, and Gavin Trapp were state finalists in marketing categories. These students worked hard on their projects and it paid off at the state competition. This year over 40 students participated in DECA and 24 of those students made it to the state competition. Our DECA participants had the opportunity to further develop their leadership and entrepreneurial skills while forming connections to business and industry. DECA helps create relevant career exposure and experiences for our students interested in the business world. - Kristen Nellis (DECA Advisor)

In addition to DECA, FLAHS students also have the opportunity to participate in our Investment Club. Thanks to a generous contribution made by a community member, students are researching companies, assessing risks, developing an investment strategy, and investing accordingly. Through their Ameritrade account, they recently invested in solar power and micro-chips.

Five Star Financial representatives Bradley Beck and Troy Axelson provided Investment Club students Investment 101 information on how the market functions and how to choose investments wisely.

Health Science Pathway

Pictured: CNA Student Ellen Joesting and Jody Ryan, Health Science Pathway Teacher.

Thanks to student interest, school support, and our partnership with Pine Technical and Community College, we were able to add a variety of courses to our Health Science Pathway. Some of these courses, such as Exploring Medical Careers, Medical Dosages, and Medical Terminology are even open to our 9th and 10th grade students. Students can graduate from FLAHS with both depth and breadth of healthcare related technical, academic, and employability skills. Additionally, they can earn three healthcare certifications: CNA, EMR, and EMT. - Jody Ryan

Demand for healthcare related workers continues to soar as does student interest in these fields. FLAHS is committed to providing our students the opportunity to learn more about healthcare related careers as well as develop the necessary skills to get a head start in the field before they even graduate from high school. The following courses have been added to this pathway for next year:

  • Exploring Medical Careers
  • Medical Dosages (college credit opportunity)
  • Medical Terminology (college credit opportunity)
  • Pharmacology (college credit opportunity)
  • Genetics in Medicine

Construct Tomorrow is coming to FLAHS!
