Cougar Report January 2019

Principal’s Update:

Dear Cougar families,

Happy new year! I hope you enjoyed a safe and relaxing winter break with your loved ones and were able to engage in those activities that bring you joy.

With January being the unofficial next chapter of the school year, it creates an opportunity for all of us to build on the momentum that was created in the fall, to possibly hit reset with our minds focused on the opportunities that lie ahead, and to establish personally meaningful goals that are realistic and achievable.

At Chalmers, we are excited to continue to build on the positive relationships that have been formed over the past few months with many of our parents and community members. We will continue to work in collaboration with you as we do our very best to meet the needs of each child and to ensure that all students are making progress and experiencing success.

Parent engagement is incredibly important to us and a vital aspect of student learning and achievement. The continued use and promotion of School-Day as a key communication tool will continue to be one of our primary strategies to ensure that Chalmers families are connected to all of the events and activities that are taking place within our school.

Beginning in February, we will take one more step toward going cashless as pizza sales will occur exclusively online through School-Day. This will require parents to create a School-Day account in order to purchase pizza for their child. Secure-Match Keys (i.e., linking your account to your child/school) for parents who have not created School-Day accounts will be sent home within the next few weeks. Parents will have the opportunity to place pizza orders on a monthly basis with orders due on the first Tuesday of each month (i.e., orders will be placed once for the entire month).

There will be time devoted to assisting parents with the creation of their School-Day account at our next School Council Meeting, which will take place on Wednesday, January 16th from 6:30 to 7:30pm in the library. You are also welcome to come in to the main office at a time that is convenient for you, and we will gladly assist you in setting up your account.

Leading up to the Winter Break our School Council in collaboration with some of our student leaders were busy making and selling Reindeer Grams with all proceeds being donated to support this year’s Grade 6 Camp. I would like to offer a huge congratulations and thank you to our School Council members for their hours of hard work in creating and organizing this event for our Chalmers students. We sold over 900 Reindeer Grams! You make us Cougar proud!

On behalf of the entire Chalmers staff, we wish you a happy and healthy start to 2019!

Sincerely,

Jeff Johnson, Principal
