ADVANCED OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP CLASS

This past month students in the Advanced Outdoor Leadership class have been learning about how to treat a patient in a backcountry setting. Students worked diligently earlier this month on their 18 hour/2 day Wilderness First Aid certifications and learned things like the difference between front and back country medical treatment, how to splint injured limbs, how to stop life threatening bleeding, how to treat for shock, how to treat for medical emergencies like anaphylaxis, heart attack, stroke, diabetic emergencies, and a whole lot more!

The 18 hour training provided ample opportunities to practice treatments in many different scenarios and then how to extract a patient out of a backcountry setting. This training is the segue into how to manage and mitigate risk while in the backcountry.

FRIEND'S OF RACHEL CLUB

Here is a quick reminder of Rachel's 5 Challenges:

  • Look for the best in others.
  • Dream big.
  • Choose positive influences.
  • Speak with kindness.
  • Start your own chain reaction.

In honor of Rachel's Challenge, we invite you to be apart of National Random Acts of Kindness Day on Thursday, February 16th, 2023!

Show the Love for RE-2

Last year, some of our parents were vocal at school board meetings and District Accountability meetings, asking to Respect Everybody Twice and honor our teachers and staff. The phrase Respect Everyone Twice has been converted into Re-2 - Respect Everyone 2wice.

Several of our Bears have been honored through this initiative to spread kindness! Congratulations to our amazing RHS Teachers and Staff that help keep our school running! Thank you for all you do!

RHS SENIOR SPORT'S SPOTLIGHT!

LIZBETH GUTIERREZ LOPEZ

"Liz leads the girls basketball team with her heart and hustle. This co-captain has led the team all season in rebounds, often getting many of her points from offensive rebounds. She is incredibly fast and can post up with some double and triple moves to keep the defense guessing."

JASMINE QUINONES ORDONEZ

"Jasmine has put in countless hours on the basketball court over the past four years to elevate her game to an elite level. Unfortunately, due to an early season injury, this co-captain has had to do much of her leadership from the sidelines. Jasmine has stepped up to the challenge and been a positive force, encouraging her teammates and helping them adjust to opponents throughout the season."

JOSEPH CEBALLOS

"Joseph is a quiet leader on the team. He is not very vocal on the court, but he makes it up by his hustle. His teammates admire Joseph for his kind heart and positive attitude. Joseph is a big part of RHS, not just the basketball team. He is active academically and participates in the school's band. We are lucky to have Joseph on our team."

MIGUEL OLIVAS

"Miguel is a first-year BEAR. He moved from Mexico to join our RHS family, tried for the basketball team, and was accepted by many as one of the Bears. Miguel speaks limited English, but his body language on and off the court shows his passion for the game. As a coach, you can not ask for a more hard working young man than Miguel."

CLATE HARDEN

"A passionate basketball player who works relentlessly and never gives up. Clate picked up a basketball 8 years ago for the first time, and he has grown into a competitor on and off the court. His hopes are to continue playing ball after high school. His most memorable moment in basketball is a buzzer-beater that he scored against Coal Ridge his freshman year."

GARFIELD RE2 ATTENDANCE POLICY

As we near the end of the 2nd quarter/1st semester of the 2022/2023 school year, the leadership team of RHS would like to take a moment to remind all parents and students of the Garfield Re2 attendance policy.

If a student reaches or exceeds 20 absences for a class, they will not earn credit for that class.

Students who near 20 absences have an opportunity to recover the loss of learning by attending Friday or Lunch Recovery.

Every five tardies are equivalent to one absence, adding to the student's absences at the end of every month.

Friday Recovery is every Friday from 8-12 at RHS, and Lunch Recovery is every school day during lunch.

For every hour a student recovers, an hour will be deducted from the total absences in a self-identified class.

If you have questions about your student's attendance or the Garfield Re2 attendance policy please feel free to contact the Dean of Students Ryan Whittington, or Assistant Principal Tabitha Harrington.
