2022 Championship Poll

The eight Landmark Conference men's cross country coaches voted Moravian University to win the 2022 Championship.

The Greyhounds will seek their second consecutive and fourth overall Landmark title this Saturday.

2021 Recap

For just the second time in the conference's 15-year history, the 2021 men's race featured a tie.

Both six-time and reigning conference champion, Elizabethtown, and two-time champion Moravian finished the 8-kilometer race with 50 points. Per the conference policy, if there is a tie between two (or more) teams, then the tie shall be broken by comparing the place finish of the five scoring members of the tied teams. The team with the majority of winning places shall be awarded the higher place, or championship, depending on the finish.

The Greyhounds were declared the team champion for the third time, which ended Elizabethtown's six-year reign. Moravian won the tiebreaker which was decided by each team's fifth runner. The Greyhound's fifth finisher came in 13th compared to 17th for the Blue Jays.

The Cardinal men enter the Landmark Championship ranked sixth in the South Region after a strong regular season led by seniors John O'Rourke and Paul Ames. The pair of veterans have earned three Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week awards between them, as O'Rourke earned two honors while Ames claimed one. After placing third at the 2021 Landmark Championship, Catholic’s best finish in the 14-year history of the event, the Cardinals look to record another top-five finish.

  • Head Coach: Sean Robinson (2nd Season)
  • Team Titles: 0

Drew, under the guidance of second-year head coach Sean Robinson, will compete with a youthful roster that has limited championship experience this weekend. The Rangers squad is made up of four freshmen, one sophomore, and one junior. Drew will be led by junior transfer Toby Gaynor, who was named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week early in the season after running the second-fastest time (26:21) in school history.

  • Head Coach: Brian Falk (12th Season)
  • Team Titles: 6 (2014-19)

The Blue Jays will look to capture the 2022 title after having their streak of six-consecutive conference championships snapped a season ago. Etown and Moravian each finished the 2021 8k championship race with 50 points and after following the conference tiebreaking policy, Moravian was named the champion as decided by each team's fifth runner.

Elizabethtown returns the reigning Performer of the Year, Nick Garrett, along with top-20 finishers Brandon Baxtor (15th in 2021) and Daniel Myers (20th in 2021).

  • Head Coach: Jon Cutright (26th Season)
  • Team Titles: 0

Juniata has two experienced runners returning for veteran head coach Jon Cutright. Senior Ellis Kline enters the championship weekend coming off his best performance at the Aubrey Shenk Invite on October 15, running a 29:26.50. He was also named the conference Athlete of the Week in late September. Kline will be joined by junior Max Scott, who also set a new personal record at the Aubrey Shenk Invite with a time of 29:28.00.

  • Head Coach: Jesse Baumann (11th Season)
  • Team Titles: 3 (2011, '12, '21)

Moravian, the 2021 Landmark champion, makes a strong case to win its second-straight conference title as the Greyhounds return four top-20 finishers, including First Team selection and Rookie of the Year Nate Hejel. Hejel is joined by fellow First Team honoree Owen Nahf and Second Team performers Jake Farrell and Liam Duffy. Moravian has had success on Goucher’s home course this season, placing first out of six teams at the Caslin Classic on October 8.

  • Head Coach: Bill Burke (17th Season)
  • Team Titles: 0

Scranton has finished no lower than 15th as a team this season, with the team’s best finish coming at the Dan Talbot Open on October 1 as the Royals finished first out of nine teams and placed eight runners in the top 20. Junior Timothy Lanahan was the top performer of that weekend, winning the race in 26:25.80. Lanahan, who was a Second Team All-Landmark selection a year ago, will be joined by graduate student Shane McKeon and senior Liam Mead to help the Royals pursue the program's first conference title. McKeon was a First Team selection last year, while Mead placed 16th in 2021.

  • Head Coach: JJ Clinchoc (2nd Season)
  • Team Titles: 5 (2007, '08 , '09, '10, '13)

Susquehanna graduate student Jack Warehime has been a rock for the River Hawks men's cross country team, finishing in the top 20 throughout his career. The veteran runner, who placed a career-best fourth at last year's conference meet, will be joined by sophomore TJ Grenda, who took home 18th in 2021. The duo will look to help SU chase down the program's sixth conference title.

Earlier this season when the River Hawks raced on Goucher's course, the team earned a third-place finish and were led by Warehime (16:29.1) and Grenda (16:31.6) who each ran a personal-best time in the 5k race.
