This is the first time St. Mary’s College has had multiple all-conference selections since the 2015-16 season when Nina Haller ‘17 and Kerri Kline ‘18 were named to the Second Team. It’s also the first time the Seahawks have had someone named to the First Team since 2016-17 when Nina Haller '17 earned the honor.

“It is an honor to have our student-athletes recognized by the conference. We are extremely proud of Karon and Steph. Their fire, work-ethic, and team-first mentality represent the continuous hard work that our entire team continues to put into our inaugural year in the United East Conference,” first-year head coach Britt Kenney said.

Williams, who was named United East Player of the Week on November 15, is notching her first-ever all-conference honor. The 5-4 guard currently ranks third in the United East with 3.7 assists per game and fourth with 14.0 points per game and 2.8 steals per game. She also owns the fifth-best free throw percentage in the league with 72.3-percent.

Williams recorded four 20-point games, including a season-high 24 points in the 61-53 win over Penn State Harrisburg on Feb. 1, and one double-double with 22 points and season-best 10 rebounds in the 51-42 victory over first-place Gallaudet University on Feb. 15.

Earning her first all-conference award as well, Howell is the conference’s second-leading shot blocker with 1.7 blocks per game while ranking sixth with 8.0 rebounds per game. The 5-8 forward scored in double digits 11 times while hauling in double-figured boards seven times. She registered four double-doubles this season.

In its inaugural season in the United East, St. Mary’s College will battle for the 2022 United East Conference Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament title this weekend at No. 1 seed Gallaudet. The fourth-seeded Seahawks will take on the host Bison on Friday, February 25, at 5:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C. During the regular season, St. Mary’s College and Gallaudet split the season series with each side winning at home. The winner will advance to Saturday’s championship game at 4:00 p.m.

Kenney added, “I feel very fortunate to work with such a wonderful group of people and can’t wait to see what we can do together in the playoffs!”
