About the Campaign
- Great Expectations campaign is about developing helpful resources for potential students interested in studying at Humber who would like to know more about the program they are applying to, through the lens of a current student.
- Students entering their second year in the program reflect on their experience during their first year. What were their expectations before entering the program? How did the program meet or exceed their expectations?
Project Goal
- To create a Humber Social Media Motion Graphics Package for the “Great Expectations” campaign.
- This package includes intro, lower-third, bumper, credits, and outro animation templates that will be used for the social media videos.
TECHNOLOGY
Adobe Photoshop - I used Photoshop to clean my sketches, remove grains, noise from the drawings so it would be easy to make digital drawings in Illustrator.
Adobe Illustrator – In Illustrator, I did asset-building using Humber brand guidelines and developed my storyboards, created style frames using rough sketches.
Adobe After Effects – I use the style frames as a reference to create all the animations and MOGRTS for intro, outro, lower-third, etc. in Adobe After Effects.
Adobe Premiere Pro – To test the MOGRTs that I created in After effects I used Premiere Pro and also to get a visual idea of what customizations are needed in the MOGRTs.

LEARNING AND CREATIVE PROCESS
Motion design has always fascinated me, and that curiosity is the driving force behind my decision to delve deeper into this field. I aim to learn more and explore its nuances, primarily to showcase the motion design skills I've acquired. Choosing this topic is not just about personal growth; it presents a unique chance for my work to be highlighted on Humber’s official Social Media channels. Additionally, it is a potent addition to my portfolio, contributing to the overall impact of my creative repertoire.
My journey into motion graphics began with a deep dive into Humber's social media platforms and a thorough examination of competitors' strategies. This phase was about absorbing the nuances of design, animation styles, and overall visual language.
Armed with these insights, I immersed myself in Humber's brand guidelines, weaving my project seamlessly into its mission and vision.
Ideation followed organically, with numerous concepts taking shape as rough sketches. This initial exploration laid the groundwork for a rich understanding of the visual landscape I was about to navigate.
Building upon the research, the design phase unfolded with a focus on asset building and iterative sketching. Each element was meticulously crafted to adhere to Humber's brand guidelines.
The iterative design process proved invaluable; feedback from peers and professors prompted a revisiting of sketches, leading to an extensive paper sketching session.
Storyboarding and style framing added layers of refinement, bringing the visual narrative closer to the pulse of Humber's motion language and overarching project goals. This phase marked the evolution from conceptualization to tangible design development.
A pivotal moment in the creative process arrived, as I reviewed the animation concepts and designs. Stakeholder feedback revealed misalignments with Humber's motion language, necessitating a recalibration of the project.
I returned to the creative canvas, dedicating substantial time to paper sketching and refining each asset concept to harmonize with the established guidelines. The storyboard and style frames underwent meticulous adjustments, ensuring cohesiveness and consistency. This phase underscored the importance of an iterative approach, highlighting the journey of continuous improvement.
I sent the new assets for feedback. While I was waiting for feedback, I attended Adobe MAX’s seminar on “Creating MOGRTs” which was my next step in the project.
The concluding stages focused on the meticulous testing and delivery of a polished product. Animation in After Effects breathed life into concepts, and the introduction of MOGRTs added a new layer of complexity.
Testing templates in Premiere Pro unearthed issues like missing properties and customization challenges. Returning to After Effects, I made iterative adjustments to address these concerns. The comprehensive testing process ensured the seamless integration of all assets and templates.
The project reached its culmination with the delivery of a refined package, ready for deployment within the college community. This final phase encapsulated the synthesis of creative expression and technical proficiency, marking the completion of a transformative creative journey.
