Illumi 2021 25,000,000 lights

For the past several years "Illumi" has been an early winter attraction in Laval (Montreal).

Illumi runs from late November to late January, and while there are a very few Christmasy light sculptures (not sure what else to call them), it is not about Christmas. It is a whimsical world of 25,000,000 lights.

We visited it in 2019 and thoroughly enjoyed it. With COVID restrictions in 2020 we didn't get to it, but made a point of going this year. Most of the light sculptures were new, but we recognized some from 2 years ago. We were a little disappointed as a good number of the sculptures were plastic casting with a light inside, not a multiplicity of small lights on a wire frame.

In some ways the production is a little over the top as there are so many sculptures it is difficult for the eye to isolate individual ones, especially so for the camera.

Upon first entering the site, you walk through a forest full of birds. While most were the plastic molded type, there were a few Chinese lantern style, and a few on wire frames.

One area featured over 100 dogs, and a few cats.

Horses were featured in a number of theme areas. The largest collection being wireframed golden horses. It was very difficult to see just one horse without several others "overlapping".

One presentation was a horse image projected on a water fountain. We had seen this type of water fountain display several years ago in Lima Peru. Illumi made a good start on it, but needs some work on it for next year😊.

There were a few horses presented in Chinese lantern style.

Vegetables and flowers were a theme with sunflowers lining the road in one area while next to it where carrots and peppers lining the walking path.

Nearby more vegetables etc were in abundance.

Mushrooms of several varieties were also in abundance.

A winter wonderland was another feature with hanging strings of white lights emulating snow. A few elves were minding the area.

Another area reminded me of Marrakesh. with its architecture and market.

The Illumi developers had obviously had school children design art work, with the winning ones being built and lit.

Dinosaurs had laid claim to a large area. Most of the sculptures were lighted wire frames which were great except they were very close to each other with much overlapping. With a bit of bobbing around I did manage to isolate a few.

Aside from the dinos being a favourite of the kids, the display of candy certainly took the cake as far as the kids were concerned.

One area was particularly "over the top". It was wild concoction of space creatures and geometric designs/patterns all reflected on non-flat mirrors.

The last group is a catchall...

A brief, very rough, video of three attractions at Illumi.
