The Greek God, Apollo Greek mythology
Apollo's Person
Apollo is said to be the god of music, poetry, art, oracles, archery, plague, medicine, sun, light, and knowledge, sun being the most important. He'd ride his golden chariot, shown to be pulled by 3 white stallions, where he would guide the sun across the sky every day, across Greece. It was said that he was outrageously talented in the arts of music and oracles. He'd be capable of playing his lute upside down, and was the best in prophetic telling, where he'd be sought by all. He also prevailed in archery, along with his sister, Artemis, and had killed Python, the oracle of Delphi, with only 2 arrows. It seemed as though he prevailed extraordinarily in all the things he reigned rule over, and has been an important god for the Greeks. His symbols were the lyre, laurel wreath, Python, raven, bow & arrows.
The Birth of Apollo
The Greek God, Apollo, and the Greek Goddess, Artemis, were twins. Their mother was Leto, and their father was Zeus. When the queen of the gods, Hera, became aware of Leto bearing Zeus' children, she forbid anyone in Greece to give her aid. Zeus, feeling pity, had transformed Leto into a quail. After Leto roamed hopelessly, she came across an isolated island, called Asteria. The island welcomed Leto, and due to the island of Asteria not owning its own position in the sea, it was said that Zeus had made the island firm, and unmoving, where its name was changed to Delos. For 9 days, and 9 nights, Leto gained fierce pains, and once she reached a small lake, she gave birth to Artemis. After giving birth to Artemis, Leto was to exhausted to birth Apollo, and so Artemis, acting as a midwife, helped Leto safely give birth to her twin, Apollo.
Apollo & Python
While he was merely 4 days old, Apollo had slayed the oracle of Delphi, for the fact in which it had harassed his mother, Leto, at the order of Hera to never give Leto a seconds rest, during her hardship in pregnancy. The oracle of Delphi was Python, and was a worshipped prophetic individual, where people would go and receive their prophecies. Apollo killed Python, using only 2 arrows. After Apollo had killed Python, Zeus looked upon Apollo with pride, but felt that Python's gifts were gone to waste, which lead Apollo to learn the arts of prophecies, and ended up becoming more talented then Python. Even still, Zeus decided punishment, where Apollo would need to work as a mortal for one year.
Apollo's Symbol, the Laurel Tree
The Laurel Tree became one of Apollo's sacred symbols, through his first love, Daphne, whom was the daughter of the Titaness Gaea, and Peneus, god of rivers. It was said that Eros (Cupid), had shot Apollo with an arrow that would make him fall in love with the first person he'd see, who had been Daphne. When Apollo fell for Daphne, Eros then shot a led tipped arrow at Daphne, making her dispise love. Even after Daphne rejected Apollo, he hadn't given up. Daphne ended up fleeing from Apollo after her rejection, and so he went into pursuit after her. Eventually, Apollo caught Daphne, and held her in his arms. Daphne; filled with despair, made a wish to her mother Gaea, which was to disappear off the face of the earth, or to be safe from Apollo's grasp. Gaea had granted her this wish, and transformed Daphne into the Laurel Tree. Apollo became sad after her transformation, and placed Laurel Leaves into his hair. Thus is how, the Laurel Wreath became one of Apollo's sacred symbols.
