Hip Hop heavyweights have called them fresh and inspirational and they hail from a city with a solid independent music scene - Houston (or Hueston). The Hue’s sound is a fusion of Hip Hop, Jazz and Spacey Electro-Soul, and today’s answer to critics who say urban music is void of substance, steeped in misogyny and a shell of the pioneering artistry it once was. Their mission is to explore the creation of music with no boundaries and often refer to their sound as ‘Future Soul’ and ‘Space Hop’.
In the span of 10 years, The Hue has created a collective where collaboration has led to some of their most creative and sophisticated work to date. Among a litany of lyricists and vocalists, The Hue has added color so vibrant, the group has compelled fans as well as music luminaries to pause, listen and let the vibe and bars take them to a higher place, or ‘Space UP’ as they would say.
Having already released multiple projects including, The District, The Weakend, and We Come In Peace, the group has earned critical acclaim from fellow Hip Hop innovators. The Roots' ?uestlove, A Tribe Called Quest's Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and Little Brother's/Foreign Exchange's Phonte, all recognize the unadulterated talent of The Hue. Few artists are capable of offering a fresh perspective while reinforcing the nostalgic sounds of Hip Hop's Golden Era.
"I feel like these brothers are going to make Houston that next spot you wouldn't think is an underground Hip Hop spot. They're doing all fresh, new ideas that I love and gravitate toward…" -?uestlove of The Roots
"It's the best thing I've heard in a long time for Hip Hop. It kinda took me back to De La Soul, but it's for the now." -Ali Shaheed Muhammed, A Tribe Called Quest
"This is grown rap music. There are messages here. There is love here. There is solidarity here. The songs are full, musical and allowed to breathe." -Hip Hop Since '71
