Hiking

Because of its location, Miskolc has a lot of hiking opportunities. One of the most popular destinations is Lillafüred which offers many sights to see. The Hanging Garden is generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 5 h to complete. This is a popular trail for hiking, mountain biking, and running, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. The mountain offers caves too that are relatively easy to hike. For example, the Szeleta Cave, the Udvarkő Cave Loop, and the Rainbow Cave. There are organized hiking trips by the Green Sports Club based on consultation.

Orienteering

Due to the diverse landscape, Miskolc is perfect for orienteers. There is a variety of urban and forest tournaments in the city. Entities such as MEAFC and DVTK have departments for this sport on a professional level.

There are many riding-halls in Miskolc. Mainly in Hejőcsaba, which is the northern part of the city. Dante Riding-hall, the Helyőmenti Horsepark are the most popular ones.

Fishing

Plenty of great fishing opportunities can be found in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county. There are lakes and rivers close to the city too, such as the Hámori lake or the Garadna river, both in Lillafüred. There are a great number of fishing spots in the region where food and accommodations are available. It is also possible to rent boats at some of these places, so you can enjoy the beautiful view and catch some fish from aboard.

Kayaking and canoeing

If you're looking for an institution to start kayaking or canoeing, we have good news for you! There are some sport clubs where you can, for example, the Diósgyőri Kajak Sport Club and the MVSC kajak-kenu club. They're both located by the Csorba-lake. When the weather is not suitable for outdoor activities, trainings are usually organized indoors.

Around the city, you can find small outdoor gym parks, usually next to a children's playground. Most of them are found in tourist sights, walking routes or parks and now more and more schools acquire one.

Népkert

Népkert, known as the People's park is a park in the heart of Miskolc. You can find a sport centre where the city's handball and hockey team play, but the coliseum has various activities for visitors. Outside two big child playgrounds, an outdoor gym and a skateboard park can be found. The park allows nature to breath, making Népkert a pleasant place to take a walk in. Recently a running road was built throughout the whole park.
