ITA assistant coach of the Year Micah Avance | Tyler Junior college

Micah Avance, Assistant Women's Coach at Tyler Junior College

The ITA Assistant Coach of the Year honors an assistant coach who has exhibited outstanding leadership in ways that contribute to on and off-court team performance.

In her third year with the Tyler JC program, Micah Avance continued to grow into her coaching skills. Alongside the Apaches' other assistant, Luc Godin, Avance stepped up at the beginning of the spring season to lead the team through practices while Coach Connell was out. Her passion and care for the women's team played a big role in their successful season. Avance would regularly spend time with the players outside of practice and matches to help them improve their game. Under her leadership, the Apaches finished the season by clinching their 20th national title.

A Note from Tyler Junior College Athletic Director Kevin Vest

We are extremely thrilled to congratulate Micah on this prestigious and well-deserved award. At Tyler Junior College, we have experienced tremendous success on and off the court in large part because of the individuals we have mentoring our student-athletes. Micah continues to make our department better, and as a result, continues to better prepare our student-athletes to succeed during their time here and well after.

In addition to being talented in teaching the sport of tennis, Micah maintains a clear focus on the value of intercollegiate athletics as a vehicle to a college education and a bright future. At Tyler Junior College one of our core values is caring, and there are very few that epitomize that value like Micah. We continue to be proud of her and are so grateful that she is a member of the Apache family.
