As TikTok grows as a platform, many people find themselves on “Food TikTok,” a place for a variety of recipes including desserts. As Easter approaches, the marshmallow treat, Peeps, fill the shelves of local grocery stores. A new trend combines the two: TikTok Peep Rice Krispie treats.
The ingredients and instructions for this recipe are similar to normal Rice Krispie treats, however, have a slight twist. The ingredients include about 24 Peeps, four cups of Rice Krispies and four tablespoons of butter.
The first step follows a classic baking recipe: preheat the oven to 350, and use Pam to spray the pan. I used a 12 by six inch glass pan.
The next step is to lay the Peeps. I chose to make a colored pattern but this is optional. I tried my best to fit as many as I could which was about 24.
Next pour four cups of Rice Krispies into the pan. They should be almost completely covering the Peeps.
Next, slice half a stick (four tablespoons) of unsalted butter into 15 slices. Lay these on top of the Rice Krispies. Then, put the pan in the oven.
After about 12 minutes, remove the pan from the oven and mix the Peeps into the Rice Krispies. At this step I also chose to add one third cup of mini normal marshmallows but this is also optional. After mixing, place in the oven for ten more minutes.
Once removed from the oven, transfer them onto a different pan and flatten as much as possible. Allow to cool for 20 minutes. I put mine outside to cool faster but a fridge/freezer will also work just fine.
After cooling, slice and eat.
These Peeps Rice Krispie treats do taste similar to normal Rice Krispie treats, however, they differ because these were a bit sweeter. Regarding cooking, I think the process of putting them in the oven vs. the classic stovetop doesn’t truly make a difference and either way would work just fine. I also ate mine with uncooked Peeps on top, to get a little more marshmallow flavor. These treats are perfect to serve for this year's Easter Sunday. They are definitely in the Spring and Easter spirit with the pastel colored marshmallows, and I will definitely be remaking.
