Education Week 2022

Congratulations to the following Byron Bay High School community members who were recognised for their wonderful contributions at the Education Week Awards presentation ceremony on Thursday 1 September.

Nominations were based on the following criteria

  • Contribution to the improvement of student learning
  • Demonstrated contribution to enhancing the quality of school life for staff and students
  • Demonstrated positive contribution to the whole school community.

Georgia Laddin | BBHS Parent

Georgia has supported the music department over a number of years. She has promoted cocurricular opportunities for gifted students including their successful selection through the Surround Sound initiative where they represented the school and were selected as command performers. She has successfully applied for funding to support the entire music program and is a tireless advocate for the arts.

Yasmine Gloeckl | Year 11

On World Refugee Day, Yasmine presented a compelling presentation to the whole school addressing the contemporary and interconnected issue of refugees, asylum seekers and those held in detention. She initiated contact with a detainee and sought an interview with a member of OCHO, a UN humanitarian organisation to enhance her presentation.

Her compassion, empathy and promotion of social justice as well as raising awareness of global issues of inequality is commendable.

Robyn Ellis | Teacher Librarian

Robyn Ellis is the teacher librarian for Byron Bay High School. Robyn continually works to improve the quality of learning and learning environment for all students. Robyn's leadership creates an inviting hub for both staff and students to: research, read novels, use ICT, study, problem solve, find a safe haven and a sense of belonging. Robyn's quiet and purposeful work supports students to increase their skills and knowledge to navigate an everchanging education and workforce landscape.

Luca Greig | Year 11

Luca is a highly enthusiastic and entrepreneurial Year 11 student who has been supporting, organising and sustaining student musical performances across the school. He held a huge lunchtime concert of student bands and soloists, raising over $300 for the KOORI mail after the floods. He has been integral in raising school spirit and providing opportunities for students to share their talent with the school community and building our musical culture. He is polite, organised, proactive, positive and wonderful.
