MURUJUGA STAKEHOLDERS NEWS Scroll down for APRIL 2020

"NGAYINTHARRI GUMAWARNI NGURRANGGA"

WE ALL COME TOGETHER FOR COUNTRY

Dear Stakeholders,

We are all currently experiencing a challenging period so the timing for the launch of our new quarterly newsletter could not be better to help us communicate with our stakeholders and remain connected.

It is of the utmost importance that we all stay informed, act responsibly and look after one another.

As you are well aware, coronavirus (COVID-19) will continue to be a serious risk to all of us over the coming weeks and months. I urge you, to follow the governments advice, ensure you wash your hands with soap as much as possible, and reduce contact with others as much as possible. If we all do the right thing, we will stop the virus from spreading so life can return to normal.

Although the office is temporarily closed, work continues at the Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation with key staff working remotely. While there have been some changes in the way we operate, I assure you that our members, land, business and projects are at the heart of everything we do. Thank you for your patience and support during this time, and we look forward to returning to normal operations as soon as it’s safe to do so.

Ngayintharri gumawarni ngurrangga. Thank you again and stay safe.

Regards,

Peter Jeffries

CEO, Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation

COVID-19 Precautions in the Pilbara

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic reaching our region, MAC has taken strategic steps to protect our staff and members.

For the latest MAC updates and support available regarding COVID-19 visit the dedicated COVID-19 page on our website.

And lastly, thank you Tootsie Daniel, Gabby Millgate and Ngaarda Media for the lighthearted yet very important reminder to wash our hands! Have a listen to Yindjibarndi elder and Ngaarda radio host, Tootsie, singing a new rendition of a favourite song on the importance of hand hygiene during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The new lyrics were developed by Gabby.

Puliyapang to manage Murujuga Rock Art Monitoring Program

Puliyapang has been announced as the successful project management team for the development and implementation of the Murujuga Rock Art Monitoring Program.

This project will see a collaboration of specialist services from Puliyapang, Tocomwall, Calibre, Curtin University, Chemcentre, and Artcare over a five-year term to monitor the potential effects of nearby industrial emissions on the rock art.

Murujuga Rock Art is the world’s largest, densest and most diverse display of rock art, and is currently nominated for UNESCO World Heritage Listing in recognition of its outstanding cultural value.

The monitoring program will play a vital role in supporting the bid for World Heritage List, and the outcomes will help determine the future opportunities and constraints of new and existing industry in the area.

Murujuga Exhibits at the WA Museum

MAC has been working closely with the Western Australian Museum to consult on and curate Murujuga stories about our knowledge, history, culture, language, landscape and our future. These stories will be included in five different gallery spaces in the new museum in Perth.

Stunning images of Murujuga will be on display along with replications of Murujuga petroglyphs which are being projected onto man-made rocks that look like real local rock form.

Petroglyphs being replicated and displayed at the WA Museum.

The museum will help start important conversations and enrich our community for generations to come.

Likely to open early 2021, the museum will offer free entry for one year and continue to feature Murujuga for at least five years.
