Summer Term has started with the sun shining and lots of exciting things continuing to happen in school. The children have, once again, come back with a smile on their face and a skip in their step.
School life
Y5 and Y6 Stepping Up Transition Project
Mr Crane, from the MFC Foundation, visited school on Monday with the Year 6 children thoroughly enjoying the session.
Here is just a snippet of what you have all been getting up to this week:
autism awareness week
This week has been National Autism Awareness week and we have talked about how everyone is different in school.
As a school, we are going to be taking part in something very exciting. We would love for all children in Galley Hill to complete a challenge with Matthew Lambert and Miss Weatherhead to raise some money and awareness for ‘The Daisy Chain Project’, which is a charity for Children and families with Autism.
This will take place on Friday 23rd April.
With all children taking part in our ‘Daily mile’ and doing superb, we thought we would put this to the test and challenge you all! Each year group will have a specific amount of time to run, jog or skip around the playground, which will be marked out as 100m. The children will do as many laps as they can, the older the children, the longer the time. All children will bring home a sponsor form with this letter, all donations will be hugely appreciated, every penny will be donated to the chosen charity.
If children could then bring donations in a sealed envelope and hand to their class teacher, with their name and year group on the front, and their sponsor form and money inside.
Year Group Running Times
Reception – 20 minutes
Year 1/Year 2 – 30 minutes
Year 3/Year 4 – 40 minutes
Year 5/Year 6 – 60 minutes
In addition to this, we have decided to hold a cake stall within the school. This will be done on the morning so all children can come along with their teacher and buy a cake. We would hugely appreciate any cakes or biscuits that anyone would like to bake and bring in on the 23rd. Prices of cakes will range from 20p-50p, so all children can be sent in with some spare change for their cake! And again, all money raised goes towards The Daisy Project.
Competition time
On 28th April we will be joining a live Zoom with Joe Foster, the founder of Reebok. In collaboration with this there is a chance to win an original pair of trainers. Details are below:
Star/Writer/ Mathematician of the week
OPAL
As part of our planned whole school OPAL development, we intend to create a small world area to be used by all the children in school (R to Y6).
Small world play appeals to all children and we would like to make the area as interesting and engaging for the children as we can. We would be very grateful for any of the following if you have a surplus at home or your child no longer plays with them:
- Toy vehicles
- Play figures (little people, characters, super heroes etc)
- Toy animals (wild animals, pets, farm animals etc)
- Dinosaurs
- Small buildings (castles, garages, fairy houses etc)
We are also planning to build a very large sand pit! If anyone has any unwanted buckets, spades or sand toys we would really appreciate those as well.
Please can you drop any of the above items at the main school entrance outside the office.
Thank you for your support.

Finally
As we continue with the Summer term, we hope we can be outside as much as possible. There will also be some dates for Parent Forum meetings coming out next week and I look forward to seeing as many people there, via zoom, as possible. It's a great opportunity to hear about our future plans, share your thoughts and help us continue to develop school in lots of different ways to make sure we can offer the best care, environment and education for the children at Galley Hill.
Take care and stay safe,
Mr Anthony McGeeney
