Becoming a Leader at SDSU: Finding Your Why
Dr. Lisa Gates, Director, and Advisor for the SDSU Leadership Minor
This interactive session involves students in the process of identifying the meaning of leadership. Students will explore the purpose for their time at SDSU and beyond and share that with their colleagues. Strategies for exploring their “why” and how they can live that out at SDSU will be presented.
After attending this session, students will:
- Reflect on the embodied view of leadership
- Explore and identify their purpose for being at SDSU
- Identify programs and strategies that will help them pursue their “why”

We will discuss tips and strategies for a smooth transition to SDSU and unique opportunities for CAL students in undergraduate research and other co-curricular activities.

- Understand the different university requirements needed for graduation
- Be informed of the various resources offered by the university

Preparing for Graduate School

This presentation covers the important steps of preparing for and applying to graduate school, as well as the basics of funding graduate studies.
By participating in this Zoom session, students will:
- Identify the benefits of applying to graduate school
- Understand how to find the best fit for graduate studies
- Gain knowledge on how to prepare and apply to graduate school
- Learn basic ways to fund graduate studies

Transfer Student Outreach Alliance Student Organization (TSOA)
This session is run by the student board of the Transfer Student Organization Alliance (TSOA). TSOA is a student-run organization at San Diego State University. Founded in 2016, our mission is to provide outreach and mentorship by promoting scholarship, community service, leadership, study abroad, and research opportunities for San Diego State University transfer students and community college students in San Diego County.
By participating in this session, students will:
- Meet the TSOA President and TSOA staff advisor
- Hear about future TSOA goals and plans
- Learn how to stay connected with the student organization
