Purple Valley Classic

On Saturday, October 1st the Mammoths traveled to Williamstown, Massachusetts to compete at the Purple Valley Classic. The women won and the men placed second, a great day for all!

With the crack of the starting pistol, the Mammoths got off the line well and settled in. Through the first mile, the Mammoths looked good and held their positions well.

As the race progressed and the second mile mark approached, the Mammoths all moved up in the field, improving upon their positions.

From the first mile mark to the second mile mark, Sophia Price, Ona Ortiz-Gudeman, Sylvan Wold and Nora Bannon each passed nine runners!

Mary Kate McGranahan

As the Mammoths entered the last section of the course in the woods, it was clear the Mammoths had locked up the team victory, and it was only more apparent at the finish line.

Mary Kate McGranahan held the lead from the gun and never relinquished it, and she won the race! Sophie Wolmer ran a great race and placed third! Daphne Theiler was next across the finish line in 9th place, running a great race! Next across the finish line was Sylvan Wold, who moved up at every mile marker, finishing in 12th place! Right behind her was Allison Lounsbury in 13th place!

Ona Ortiz-Gudeman was next, finishing in 21st place! Nora Bannon passed runners at every mile marker, including 5 runners in the last 1200 meters to place 28th! Claire Callon fought hard from the start to the finish line, placing 33rd!

Julia Gentin

Julia Gentin was next across the line in 38th place, followed by Sophia Price in 43rd place! Margo Pedersen held her position well throughout the race and placed 80th! Mia Rahn placed 92nd and moved up during the entire race!

When the final results were tallied, the Mammoths were the clear victors, winning with a score of 38 points!

Aidan Gemme

The men were next to toe the line. The men were patient in the early stages of the race as many competing athletes got off the line quickly.

In the second mile, the Mammoths moved up in the field big time. Nine Mammoths passed more than nine runners in the second mile, including Oliver Spiva and Thomas Stephens, who worked well together to pass 17 runners. Emmett McGrath and Spencer Davis each passed a team high 19 runners!

The Mammoths continued to move up in the third mile, and looked great going into the last loop of the course!

Theo Dassin

Theo Dassin ran a strong race, placing 11th! Henry Dennen was right behind him in 12th place, holding his position well during the race! George Cahill placed 14th, using his experience from his first 8k to his benefit! Aidan Gemme placed 20th, running a strong race! Thomas Stephens and Oliver Spiva used their teamwork to their advantage, placing 27th and 29th, respectively!

Spencer Davis and Braedon Fiume were next across the line, placing 39th and 40th, respectively! Luke Munch ran well, moving up throughout the race to place 46th!

Daniel Martin

Ben Davis moved up at every mile marker, using that momentum to place 51st! Daniel Martin was next across the line in 52nd place, who also moved up well throughout the race! Aydin Williams, similar to his teammates, moved up really well throughout the race, placing 53rd in a great race! Emmett McGrath used a similar tactic to his teammates and placed 57th! Ian Dopp was next across the line in 67th place, and Paolo Canigiula enjoyed a nice Mammoth debut, placing 92nd!

The men placed second as a team, scoring 65 points!

It was a great day at Williams with a nice first taste of fall weather! Everyone brought great energy and we are so grateful for the support of all of the family and friends who cheered on the Mammoths from near and far! And a huge thanks to Damaris Lounsbury P'26 for taking so many great photos!

NEXT UP is the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday, October 15th held at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, Connecticut. The women race at 12 PM and the men race at 1 PM.
